I can cook almost anything as long as I have the recipe in front of me. I'm a pretty picky eater, but I'm curious to see what you guys would suggest anyways to see if anything sounds good.

Cooking in College
For the first time, I have my own kitchen, and so I'm curious if you guys have any recommendations on things to cook.

Re: Cooking in College
Spaghetti. Soooo much spaghetti.
I don't think I'll eat spaghetti for another 5 years.
As fun as it was to live right in campus in my apartment, I'm happy to be back home with a decent meal cooked for me every night.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: Cooking in College
But for a real suggestion: buy a rice cooker! (if you like rice)
We used that thing all the time. You can cook up chicken and vegetables to make fried rice. And it's super easy to do. Add rice and water, close lid, and it's done in like a half hour, no stirring or anything.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: Cooking in College
Once I got my own apartment, I did homemade pizza, homemade bread bowls and soup, souffles, anything in a cast iron skillet, cheesecake, meatloaf. Vary amounts of the previous depending on your metabolism.Comment

Re: Cooking in College
I cooked about 8 different things in undergrad.
-Pancakes
-Tacos
-Chicken fried rice
-Grilled burgers or chicken
-Chicken casserole
-Fried porkchops
-Beef tips and rice
Pancakes were the easiest because Target has those pre-made mixes. Tacos are easy too, just buy the boxed dinner and some 85-15 ground beef. For beef tips and rice just buy beef cut up for stewing and some jasmine rice.Twitter

Re: Cooking in College
Chicken Alfredo is a favorite of mine, it's fairly cheap, easy to make, and it's delicious. The rice cooker suggestion is a good one, as stir fry is always a great option. And of course, no college kitchen would be complete without the obligatory Mac and cheese, ramen, and grilled cheese quick meals that I know a lot of people make.Check out my Houston Astros Dynasties:

Re: Cooking in College
Anything involving ground beef will be cheap, filling and easy to cook. All you need is a skillet and a stove.
Plus you can cook enough ground beef for 2 or 3 meals then store the rest in the fridge.
I had tons of tacos, chili and spaghetti in college.Last edited by jyoung; 09-11-2013, 02:23 PM.Comment
