    Question about passport application

For anyone who has gone through the process just curious if anyone can clarify a couple things for me in terms of filling out the application. Never had a passport before so just not quite clear on a couple of the blanks.

It asks for your Place of Birth (City & State) so I'm assuming I put just as it says the city and state of my birth, the only reason I'm questioning this is on my birth certificate instead of listing a city it just says Saint Louis County. I know the city and state so I can definitely write that down but just wanting to make sure it isn't wanting me to put what is listed on my birth certificate.

Also for Parents place of birth does it once again want their city and state? My birth certificate only says Illinois and not the city in which they were born, I know the city again but just wanting to be sure I'm not going to have any issues if I put that as well.

Probably some dumb questions just a little nervous since I'm wanting it to go through without any problems so I can travel this summer. Everything else is in order so just looking for some peace of mind.

    Re: Question about passport application

I would seriously find out for certain before you fill out the forms and submit.

I'm in Canada so our passport bureau likely has different standards and practices compared to the US. For example, just a few months back a friend of mine's husband had his passport renewal rejected. He goes by Alex but his driver's license states 'Alexander". They told him to go and get an updated driver's license and re-submit. My passport office is like a 45 minute drive from my house. I would be livid if I was rejected for something like that.

When we applied for a passport for our son we had to go to city hall first and get an extended version of his birth certificate. The one we had already did not have mine or my wife's name on it. You had to have one stating who his parents were. $30 just for that!

Yeah I wish we had a passport bureau here, the only places in my area where you can apply are post offices and the people working the desk there didn't seem to really have a definite answer for me which made me leave because I wasn't comfortable submitting it under those circumstances.

I'd just put the city and state like it is asking. Thats what i did and didnt have any problems.

Interesting, well at least you won't have too many issues when it comes to renewals since most of the information will be in the system.

I had to renew my passport last year and it went by pretty quickly. It was a last minute thing so I had to do the expedited route, had some paper work to fill out and show my birth certificate and it was done.

Yeah that's what I'm going to go with, I guess worst case if anything happens I'd find out and could always reapply with expedited and be fine.

I put city/state for all of them. I had to double check with my mom on hers and my dad's (I knew them both, but didn't want to screw up a document). I don't think this is a big deal though, shouldn't affect things. Some people may not know this info and still would get passports.
