    Deposit Jam

My deposit jammed at Wells Fargo this morning and I entered the wrong amount due to a misunderstanding. I have been stressed all day about it. I filed a claim and was told it could take up to 10 days to investigate but I can't wait that long. Does anyone know if it will really take that long?

From what I understand, this should be solved when they balance the machines.

    Re: Deposit Jam

Did it jam or did you enter the wrong amount? Two different things.

And it's important to know that bank's ATM's are not serviced by the bank but by a third party.

For PNC, Diebold services our ATM's.

If the deposit got jammed, it should be resolved relatively quickly because you are correct, that should be caught when the machine is closed out.

If you entered the wrong amount, that is a different story and would depend on WF's dispute policies.

I will tell you that PNC will quote 10 days in a similar scenario but it generally takes no more than 3 days to get money provisionally given to you.

It jammed, then told me to enter the amount I thought I deposited. I put in the wrong amount.

If the check was taken and you put in the wrong amount that will probably add to it.

Whoever services the ATM's just sends the check to whatever center processes the checks (I know in the east Wells Fargo goes to Philly and I believe where you are it would go to San Francisco) so that will add to the amount of time it takes for them to verify the discrepancy.

After hearing nothing all week, I called back today and got a provisional credit.

They have a mobile app that deposits checks. I've never had a problem and you still have the original check as record if something goes wrong. Shouldn't even have a need to deposit at the ATM any more.
