Why is it surprising to see teams in California with good fanbases?

I know I am still young, but when I first joined this site, I was really young and remembering some of my old posts(thanks Kehlis for bringing up the rain ), it's just flat out embarrassing. I'd like to imagine I have changed a good bit haha.

I said for hockey. Not just cause there's almost an entire NBA division based in California, the fact we might have 2 NFL teams moving back to LA and how many MLB teams are in there(so NHL you'd have thought would be like a 4th option for people), but also cause of the weather specifically. A state as warm as California you wouldn't typically expect to be that interested in hockey.

Obviously that "stereotype"(if you want to call it that) proven wrong since Sharks playing at the "shark tank" seems like one of the best home ice advantages in the league. And now the Kings having the success they're having in past 3 years at a time where Lakers are struggling so much and no other California team in other major sports being title contenders, so they can be the stars of LA now.

I know you were talking about hockey.

That's what I'm asking you. Why is it surprising that there is a good fanbase for the King's and Sharks? I don't get it.

Dallas has actually done pretty well since the Stars came to town. This isn't a hockey town but the amount of hockey rinks and teams has really grown. I went to high school in Arlington and we had a hockey team.

I don't mean it's still surprising now or something, I meant like it's surprising it worked at first cause if you were to list hockey markets, many would be in Canada and also northern USA(like Detroit,Chicago,NY,Boston and so on), but you wouldn't have really expected teams in California to work out as well as they have. I'm not at all saying it's surprising today why Kings/Sharks have good fanbase.

Think about it, would you typically think a place that's as hot as California is, would actually be a place where hockey is popular? People generally would say no. Just like it might have sounded strange seeing a sport typically played in warm weather places, being popular in Canada or something cause it's not the first place you'd think of when thinking of that specific sport.

And like I said, with all other 3 pro sports being as big as they are, you'd have thought hockey would take a back seat to them in California(like it has in other states in the US) but that isn't the case.

I'll give you LA but you may want to check a map.

San Jose is pretty much Northern USA...

St. Louis and San Jose are pretty much the closes comparison on the latitude line so if you think San Jose wouldn't have a hockey market you should probably feel the same about St. Louis.

About 2/3 of the NHL is more north than San Jose, so they're not counted as "northern USA" cause of that.

California has 3 Stanley Cups since a Canadian team last won. The California team that hasn't won the Cup has been consistently good. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize why people show up to their games.

Oh okay. Didn't know that the USA would be divided geographically by NHL teams. Carry on then.

San Jose is northern USA? Are we talking if you cut the country in half and only of a southern and northern?

So our house is a slab foundation. I was cleaning the shower and foolishness kicked in, I decided after cleaning out the shower drain of hair with a clothes hanger (my wife sheds ridiculously) that I'd use the toilet brush to clean the edge of the pipe. Horrible, horrible idea. The end broke off. In the drain.

While I'm gone to the garage to get needle-nose pliers, my wife tries to "help" by attempting to force the end back into the head. In turn, the brush is now a good 8-10 inches down the pipe. Into the foundation.

Lowe's and Home Depot were closed, so I had to think about the scenarios all night. Fun. Ended up getting a flex claw. It got the brush about half way up the pipe, still out of reach of my needle-nose. Had to get a pair of 14" pliers to get the job done.

                            Never again. Never, ever again.

Roomates are so unorganized and messy it's ridiculous.

I've bitched before, but I share a common area with three other people, including a small kitchen area, bathroom sink area, and a bathroom.

We have one trash can out in the common area by the door.

There are two small bedrooms with two people in each w/ bunk beds, a decent sized fridge, two desks, walk in closet, and some drawers.

Every single room inspection we get blasted because my roommates are so nasty and dirty. I vacuum every few days, take the trash out most days, clean the bathroom a lot of days, etc. It's all because I don't want to live in filth and I don't have much of a choice. I'm going to have to talk to someone if they won't listen to reason.

The guys in the next room broke a chair Monday and it's been sitting in our common area for 4 days, along with a bag of trash that they had when we came back from South South Korea. The bathroom sink has nasty crud, small globs of hair from someone's beard, etc. I haven't used it all week.

My actual roommate has had a pile of clothes (some dirty, some clean) and a bunch of empty bottles and chip bags in the floor for at least a *** **** month. He occasionally throws one or two away or does laundy, but instead of hanging his clothes up or moving them, they go right back into a pile or he puts them on his bed and sleeps with them. He never makes his bed up.

We got blasted on our room inspection today and there are remarks that say if we can't straighten up we'll have to live on the ship. I'll be complete dick or talk to someone else about it before I go live on our ship.. **** that.

I got "beyond satisfactory" on my box, but the room as a whole can't fail. We're supposed to "police each other". Our RA's are pretty cool too. They don't even mention the fact that we have an obscene amount of alcohol in our room.. and that's a rule too. They just want us to be clean.. it's not that hard. I put very little effort into it. I actually say **** to my roommate about it constantly, but he doesn't care and doesn't mind admitting that he's a lazy ****.
