I've got a couple of questions for you guys: 1) When did you start playing organized basketball (if at all) and 2) When did you start running set plays?

The reason I ask this is because I coach 4th-6th grade girls basketball at a small private school in the area, and the concept of "offense" seems to be completely foreign. We've been working on the same two sets pretty much all season, this set is a bit more recent, we started on it before break, but every time I have them run it against an actual defense, they act like they've never run the thing before.

I started playing organized basketball a bit in 4th grade, then a little more at the YMCA when I was a 5th grader. Back then, we learned sets. It was difficult, but after a good three practices (in which we did more than just learn the set) we had it down. Now, granted, we only practice every other school day (MWF this week, TT next week), but pretty much all we've worked on the past couple of times is our plays and still nothing. I'd love to move on to something else, but I simply can't because we don't have this one basic thing down.

So, long rant short, I'm super frustrated by this. Also, I feel bad for the few (maybe three or four) who actually understand it, because they have to run it ad nauseum for the ones that don't get it. I just don't understand. Back when I was a kid, this stuff was not easy. It was difficult. But we learned it and remembered it. So, I just want to know if you guys had any thoughts... maybe I have unreasonably high standards, I don't know, but, I don't think that's the case. I just feel like, if you're going to be there in practice and expecting to play in games you should be able to focus and learn this kind of stuff. What do you guys think?

I played BB for 3 years, K5-2nd grade. I had no sports background and wasnt good, but we werent a competitive team really. He tried to teach us 3 plays, and i got nothing.

I coached some 8th grade girls my JR year in college...I didn't feel like they could handle set plays, or even the tiniest criticism of any kind haha. The 8th grade boys I coached could handle some set plays, but I felt like they were easily overwhelmed. There was no zone defense allowed, so at least I didn't have to worry about that.

I coached 5th & 6th grade girls back in my early college days. I don't remember having that much difficulty getting them to run a few set plays. I remember I was even able to get them to add a few wrinkles to the set.

I may have had a smart team though.

I first played organized basketball in 2nd grade. My main memory is that the league was "no press" and I had no idea what "press" was. I kept getting whistled for trying to defend full court, coach would remind me it's a "no press" league and I kept doing it anyway since I had no clue.

I also remember the only time I scored was on a fast break when I randomly pulled up from the FT line and everyone groaned, but I rattled it in anyway!

Furthermore, we once lost 29-2 and our only points came because a kid from the other team accidentally scored in the wrong basket

To any OS police folk, my roommate just threatened me. I don't have it recorded, so naturally I have no proof (and I know if confronted, he and his girlfriend will deny it). He said next time he hears me talking **** behind his back, he's not afraid to come in my room and beat my ***. He said he's not afraid to shoot me, that he has a gun in his car right now. We're going to have a discussion when the other roommates get home, but I know he won't repeat his threat around them either. What course of action should I take?

I mean, apart from the fact that someone just said they aren't afraid to put a bullet in my chest, the attempt at humor is slightly appreciated.

Personally i'd try to get the HELL outta there ASAP.
