I get dumber every time I go on Facebook. I stumbled upon someone who shared the link that explains how all of New Mexico and half of west Texas is going to have to be evacuated because of the nuclear waste leak.

I'm not sure if anyone here is into poetry or not, but I wrote a poem for my English class and was wondering if anyone wanted to take a look at it and give me some comments and feedback. I have to present it in front of my English class and they have to discuss and analyze it. You and the Night and the Music
The Autumn Leaves danced in the brisk air
Cascading downward until they reached
the damp New York sidewalk, 178th and 7th.
A frantic blue caressed the November rain
as it made its presence felt
Donned under a long, red awning with the name
‘Village Vanguard’ inscribed in bold letters on top,
A gang of women clad in dresses
fit for a spring day stood underneath.
The rain grew stronger as if to prove a point
The Vanguard wasn’t just a club, it was Sidney Bechet’s
powerful clarinet in the 30’s, Thelonious Monk’s big bang in 48’,
John Contrane’s definititive sax over four nights in 61’.
A mainstay in the midst of jazz greatness,
A man named Bill was performing that night
A warm red curtain enchanted the place.
The walls were covered in pictures of
past performers while their names didn't even matter.
The green and red color scheme was reminiscent of Fenway Park,
even an adamant Yankee fan would feel serene.
Bill’s image was the music he played;
Black and white, yet a deep level of blue
He wore suit of black and white, with black rimmed glasses,
a black tie and black hair, slicked back.
The ash of his cigarette augmented outward.
He made the black Steinway piano tremble
with his performance; a new language, consisting of only
adjectives for every term, every language can’t comprehend.
He was inventing and reinventing chords on the spot,
As if he didn't think his voice, but minor 7 chords and notation
The song he played was titled Waltz for Debby
He sung instrumentally, playing the bass, drums,
and trumpet by himself, on black and white keys
unlocking my subconscious like I heard psychedelics do.
A real stentorian voice from a mute.
The set was over and Bill left his home;
Snuck out through the back to aid his eventual demise.
I recall feeling how empty he must be never being able
to recreate such a magical set, note for note, chord for chord.
I feel empty, I don’t remember exactly how it went.1905 1921 1922 1933 1954 2010 2012

Yeah I was thinking of changing that, but it's a poem about Bill Evans and that was the song I was listening to when I started writing it. There are a lot better song titles of his that would fit better but I haven't really decided on changing it yet. Thanks for the advice!1905 1921 1922 1933 1954 2010 2012
