Re: Off Topic 2014
LOL, I think it's apparent I'm not the biggest Tiger fan out there. However, if he was still winning, I'd understand all the coverage. But he's not. He's an average golfer right now.
If people still genuinely care for him and only watch when he plays, then more power to them, but that's lame in my opinion.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2014
It is the nature of things. People still paid to watch Jordan when he was with the Wizards even though he was passed his prime already. People paid to see Brett Favre when he was passed his prime. Hell people doing it with Derek Jeter now.
Heck if Mike Tyson said he was going to fight right now, the arena would be sold out just because of who he is. 15 to 20 years from now, they will name Golf Tournaments after Tiger Woods because he did so much for the sport.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2014
All the Woods coverage is just a testament to the media having to cling to something, anything, to pull a rating. How about playing up all the other talent in golf? Does watching another round of bad Tiger Woods golf really bring ratings? If people are watching for that, they're gonna continue to be disappointed. How long can they ride this one out?
I just really dislike them building one guy up when he's not playing good golf right now and won't get back to where he was. When he was dominating, it was a lot easier to swallow the coverage. Now it's just sad and pathetic, one to see a great fade into oblivion, and two to watch the media cover him like he's still a good golfer. Give it a rest.
It's just kinda crazy in this flavor of the month society that they continue to ram him down our throats. I don't even mind Woods and really never did (he deserved all the coverage he got, and its not his fault they continue to force feed us) but the constant coverage and interviews are so tiresome.
How can the other talented golfers make a name for themselves when we're still getting coverage on Woods like it's 2002? People say Woods draws ratings, but we don't know if any other golfers would too because they don't get the chance.
The whole thing is annoying.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: Off Topic 2014
We're mad that people still talk about the 7th ranked golfer in the world who is an icon in the sports world and the only transcendent star in the last 20 years in a sport where ratings and the general level of buzz around the sport are in the tank when he's not in the mix on a Sunday?

Okay.
But he isn't an icon anymore. Unless I'm missing something.
I'm not the biggest Golf fan out there, but I don't need Tiger Woods on my TV to be captivated at what's going on. Great play is great play regardless of who is doing it.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2014
It's no different than Michael Jordan sucking in his later years, he's still an icon regardless of success.
He lifted the game of golf so far and has his name in almost every record book. Not sure where you got that he isn't an icon from.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2014
Yes he is. He's arguably the best golfer of all time and at worst second best. That's icon status.
And you're acting like he didn't win a bunch as recently as last year. They weren't majors, but he won like 5 tournaments in 15 tries or something. And he finished tied for 4th at the 2013 Masters and tied for 6th at the 2013 Open.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: Off Topic 2014
Fair enough, but how much longer does this guy need this type of praise while his game continues to be where it's at??
At what point does the switch happen where these other guys start to get the "heavy" coverage?
I get what he's done in the past, but isn't the media milking the hell out of it at this point?Comment

Re: Off Topic 2014
Are we talking about the same media that would stalk how Bret Favre was cutting his grass and gave minute to minute updates on what Lebron was doingSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment
