Re: Adding a Media/Game room to my house

Finally got all the bids in and they were varied, 36K, 43K, 55K. I'm not sure what the 55K bid was selling me maybe gold plated walls? Maybe they didn't want the work but they were the last ones to give me their bid and were sending out subs earlier in the week. I chose the 36K bid, they guy seemed ok and was eager to get to work, he's been in business for 10 years and has a good better business rating so I felt fairly comfortable in choosing him. He starts on Monday so hopefully it will go smooth.

I'm doing my own AV wiring so I've got all the parts ordered. 4 HDMI cables(40ft a piece), 500ft 12 guage speaker, 500ft Cat6 ethernet, and 2 RCA coaxial for subs. After I ordered all that I found out about low voltage mounting brackets so that was a separate order along with some banana plugs for my speakers. There is always something else you need.

Sorry for the lack of updates but my room is finally finished and I'm really pleased at how it turned out. Here are some pics, I just bought a couch for the platform that I'll have pictures of later.

Very nice. If you have a dedicated room, then a fixed screen is the best option. How many subs do you have? Is it a 9.1 or 9.2 setup?

The drums are on a platform that I can move, I use it for Rockband which I play all the time so I keep it close because of that.

I have 2 subs, a new SVS PB2000 and my old Klipsch 450. I wired for 9.2 but currently only have 7.2 as I need a pre-amp to drive the other 2 speakers which I'll do a bit later. I'm bought a Denon X4000 receiver and it's really nice and allows me to display the same content to my projector and TV without switching cables.

This is the first weekend that I've had a chance to actually use it so I had my girlfriend and another friend with his young daughter over and we watched Rio in 3D and it was awesome. The buttkickers under the seat were a hit and scared my friend a couple of times, his daughter really enjoyed the 3D and thought it was snowing in the room.

I had everything in the pictures except for the projector, screen, and bar, in my upstairs portion of the house and now that's barren.

Gotcha. I'm assuming you have a Harmony remote to control everything.

Thanks, it took me a long time to finally get the room I wanted. I turned 40 this year so I guess it's my midlife crisis moment.

Yes I got the harmony ultimate with the hub and it works fairly well. It's still a bit buggy from time to time and there is always tweaks to make with the programming so it's not a perfect remote but I like it. I did have it freeze up once already which is sad for a remote control.

Co-sign. Nice choice on paint color.

Also, what model 3D glasses do you use?

It looks like it is either Olive Green or Chateau Grey

Where are the hand painted miniature war scene tables? That and the life size Batman or Stormtrooper seem to most oblivious omissions.

                            Great game room.

The paint is a flat Lava Gray. I debated back and forth over flat vs eggshell and even though I choose es they painted it flat which was nice because there is no glare off the projector but any time you brush up against it there is a chance that it will chip off. I bought a paint roller specifically designed for that so it's not a big deal. I bought a dart board and case today I hope to have it up by this weekend.

                              Zalf,
