Ebay Question

Sorry if I post this on the wrong forums but I am new to ebay bidding and yesterday I won a bid for a video game but had a change of heart so I contacted the seller via private message and he agreed that I didn't have to buy it and that he will re-list the video game that I won from auction.

My question is what steps (if any) do I have to take because right now it still says "pay now" on the item I won from bidding.

Nothing, keep all correspondance in case he tries to file a non paying bidder claim against you so you can show that you contacted him and he was fine with you not paying for it in the end.

Exactly. Ebay is really great, at least in my history, with reimbursements, etc. I even erroneously bought postage for something I needed to ship out and they refunded me.

Definitely take the advice given here. In the future though, just make sure you really want an item before bidding on it, because if you end up not wanting it like this time, you may not encounter the most generous people. Sounds like you got lucky with this guy if in fact he stays true to his word of being ok with it.

Yes, make sure you intend to buy something if you win the item. I can't tell you how big of a hassle it is sometimes as a seller to have someone win an item and then conveniently decide that they don't want it. I've had several higher dollar items recently that guys used the make offer or buy it now, and then decided against paying for it. I'm usually the nice guy and agree to relist it, but it often puts me in a crunch.

Moral of the story, don't bid/offer unless you're at 100% positive that you are going to follow through.

Another question...Sorry for being a newbie again. Say if I paid for something and right before the seller shipped it out to me...Me and him agrees to cancel it and he refunded the money back to me....

Is there a step I have to do on paypal to get my refund or does it just automatically sends back the money to my debit..?

Since we have an EBay thread up and running, I'll throw in my novice question as well: how much of a hassle is it for you guys to ship products? What's your process for doing so? Just take it to the post office? Do you package at home?

Nothing to do on your end. Just wait a few days for the refund to post back to you on paypal. If not, file a claim.

Depends on what you are shipping. You just gotta have something to ship "it" in. Ebay lets you do it anyway you want: USPS, UPS, FedEx , etc
Only thing is making sure you don't cheat yourself and underestimate how much the shipping cost will be when you list the item.

After the sale, you can use ebay's shipping calculator and buy the postage online or you can just take it to the post office and have them weigh and charge you for shipping.

The main thing is do whatever you said you'd do or PM the buyer if something changes. Ex. Don't charge for priority and then ship media mail.

I'd also advice getting delivery confirmation on everything you ship just to try and protect yourself from anyone trying to scam you and get something for free. If the item you sold has any decent value to it I'd also consider adding insurance to it as another layer of protection. All of this can be done at the post office if you mention you want it.

Co-sign. Definitely get delivery confirmation. IIRC, a tracking number is free with all priority shipments now.

Any big packages I ship I personally drop off at the post office. Anything smaller that is in an envelope or bubble mailer I just leave in my mailbox for the mailman to pick up.

Having a postal scale also helps in getting accurate weight for items you want to ship. Before I put an item up for sale, I figure out what I will ship it in and package it as I would when it sells. I then place it on my postal scale to get the correct weight so I know what to list for shipping in my listing. 0-13oz will let me pick the exact price to show the buyer. Anything over 13oz will need to be shipped Priority Mail. If I have to ship Priority I use flat rate boxes. Those are one flat rate and you don't have to worry about the weight. Also, if you print a shipping label out online through ebay you will save money on postage as well. For example, a large flat rate box costs $17.45 to ship. Printing out a shipping label makes it only $15.80.

Speaking of ebay, I just had one of my items sold and the buyer is from the Netherlands. The description in my item specifically says that I only ship within the US. Guess he didn't read it. This should be interesting. I messaged him to tell him I have that listed in the description.

You can block your listing from showing up in countries you don't ship to.
