Why is the USA flag patch on military uniforms velcro?

I saw a guy on the train today with a camo green hat that had the American flag (camo green as well) as a velcro patch on the front. Why do they do this on uniforms these days?

So you can remove patches, nametags, and stuff I think. Makes it so the uniform itself can be generic, and the soldier in specific can have whatever patches he needs.

This is just a guess, but it makes sense to me....they'd get so many uniforms dirty that you'd have to be able to swap out this stuff easily.

In case you are behind enemy lines, you can rip it off. Being an American overseas in some places is an automatic death sentence.
