A slang term for a mentally disabled person?
Honestly, I believe as a coach you have an obligation to conduct yourself in a somewhat professional manner, especially considering a lot of the kids look up to you for leadership and guidance.
But I also know that coaches have different ways of expressing themselves to kids. I loved my football coaches but if I went home and repeated some of their jokes and some of the stuff they said to my parents, my parents would have looked at me crazy.
I think if he was directing those terms towards his own players using them in ways to degrade them out of anger/frustration, he should lose his job. If he's using them in a joking manner or referring to other players on other teams that way, he needs a lesson in communication and proper expression, but shouldn't lose his job imo. Especially if he's gotten away with it for so long.[NYK|DAL|VT]

Re: Off Topic 2015
In those situations (other than in obvious cases of abuse or assault) you can guarantee that the ones pushing for the coach to be fired are the parents of kids who don't start. Some parents can't accept that their kid isn't the best at something and seek to ruin things for everyone. They will take an issue and completely blow it out of proportion.
I have always considered reffing hockey, but you have to start at the youth level. So before I signed up to start the classes, I observed the refs at a tournament one weekend. Needless to say, I never signed up for the classes. I don't have the patience to deal with overzealous hockey parents.Comment

And I umpire Little League baseball and like 3 or 4 years ago, I took the test to get patched to do the games you see during the LLWS. And in that time I have only thrown out 1 coach. And it was actually last week. So not of those coaches are that bad. And always just stick to your call.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2015
Yea there was more information in the comments section than the actual article. And one of people said that 6 juniors didn't come back due to the coach. But I am listening to sports talk radio and they were talking about this and one guy said that these kids that left because they went to play other sports or didn't want to miss opportunities to have a fun spring semester in their senior year.

Re: Off Topic 2015
That's when I go to one of the coaches and tell him/her, " Hey coach tell this person to keep it quiet or he/she is going to asked to leave. And most of the time that works.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2015
I used to ref youth soccer in HS and even on that level it's tough to block the parents out, we couldn't even get coaches to take us seriously, some of them tried to handle everything on their own, as if there weren't paid ($15 a game!) officials working the game. There were times we had to stop the game to make the coaches and parents get off the field. Looking back on it, especially with the social issues I have today, I have no idea how I did that jobWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment
