    NASA Space Flights

A dwarf planet is shining two bright lights at a NASA spacecraft right now, and our smartest scientists are unsure what they are.

As bizarre as that sentence sounds, that's the situation with Ceres — the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, officially designated as a dwarf planet (the same category as Pluto).

NASA's Dawn spacecraft is approaching Ceres ahead of a March 6 rendezvous. The picture above was taken February 19, from a distance of just under 29,000 miles, and shows two very shiny areas on the same basin on Ceres' surface.

I find it funny that there are a couple of dwarf planets between mars and juputer and they never really talk about it much

Yeah makes you wonder how many more planets or other things that are out there that they never talk about.

Well since I believe New Horizon's is about to finally touch down on pluto in a couple of months, we'll see what happens there. I think they hid ones like Ceres under the guise of an asteroid and we haven't had a picture of it since what 2004 even though its so close to us?

So they've sent a craft there which is on the way soon to be much more clear. It would be very interesting if that light is electromagnetic.

Mainstream science already took a blow with that Rosetta mission

They think there might be water under the surface of Ceres as well. And the "light" could be plumes.
