You're right. The conversation has muddied a bit since the OP and I was more speaking towards complaints than the actual topic at hand.

OK, sorry to be "that guy", and I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with this company. But all you guys saying the company was being shady, don't you think it's a bit shady for people who have has 0 experience with that company giving them a 1 star rating because someone they know on a message board had a bad experience with them?

Maybe. I can't directly affect their business, but they obviously treated him wrong, so this is how I can hopefully help someone else from receiving the same treatment.

Is it that different from a news station doing a hidden camera story and uncovering bad business practices? Or from you refusing to go to a certain business because of a poor experience someone you know had?

Have you ever bought a car from a car dealership?

This experience isn't exactly a one off.

Re: Ugly side of a car dealership

I have bought 2 cars in my lifetime and experienced buying multiple cars with my parents when I was younger, and exactly 1 of those times I was treated fairly and with respect. It was my first car purchase alone. The salesmen couldn't have been more honest and easy to deal with.

Every other car dealership experience I've had has had issues. From aggressive salesmen, outright lying, pressure, being talked down to (which is the worst) being treated like I or my family was stupid.

Hell, just recently we turned in a car that was on a lease and we got the car from a dealership about 2 hours away because we lived down there at the time and since we moved back here we wanted to see about just returning the car to the same network dealer in my town. My dad is friends with the owner of the entire network which is like 6 or 7 dealerships in NE Ohio. He asked if we could do this and he said it was no problem, soooo...

We went to drop the car off and the guy told us we couldn't do it. We had to take it to the original dealership. I said no, the owner told us we could drop it here and he said well I don't know who you think you talked to but the owner wouldn't let you do that. I then mentioned the owner by name and told him I wanted him on the phone with him now to confirm this. So after giving us a terrible attitude and being completely rude to us he comes back and says "gimme the keys."

I said that's more like it, and I asked his name and he told me it was "Dave" and I said okay Dave, I'll make sure to tell everyone I know not to deal with you if they ever come to this dealership. He just looked at me and my wife I handed him the keys and walked out.

So yeah, maybe a little jaded, but I pretty much believe almost all car dealerships are shady.

                Sorry if tldnr.

Well yeah, it is different from both situations.

A news story would uncover a pattern of bad business practice so there would be more than one example while you guys are giving a business bad reviews based on the experience of a single individual.

And even if I did choose not to patronize an establishment because of the bad experience of a friend, I'm still not giving them a bad review based on a 3rd party account and posting in on social media for all to see.

What you're doing would be like if someone told me that MLB The Show (a game I have never played) was a terrible game and then me going and writing a bad review for it based solely on what the person who told me it was terrible said.

Can't drive, so no I haven't. But I've heard plenty about disreputable dealerships and don't doubt things like this happen. My argument is, though the business practices may be shady and unethical, it is equally shady and unethical to give a business a bad rating based solely on 3rd party accounts without having any firsthand experience with that business.

But we should probably stop before this thread gets totally derailed.

Thanks guys. I really do appreciate the help, reviews, comments and opinions. It's been a big help as we are looking into small claims court or legal action at this time as well.

Burghfan, I understand your side of it as well. For me, this was more of them telling me "we don't care about social media". They quickly proved that was false by having people give them fake 5 star reviews.

Sorry to hear. Do you have a news station that handles stories like this? Here we have "Action 9" segment of the local news where shady business practices are exposed. 95% of the time, the company ends up fixing the situation when a news crew shows up at their office.

Re: Ugly side of a car dealership

I've never personally had an issue with buying a car (I've bought two), however I know how shady they can be.

When I was younger, my cousin bought a car but didn't have the credit. The salesman, known to be shady as ****, let him forge his mother's information as a cosigner.

I took my car to a dealership garage and, like a lot of those nightmare scenarios go, told me this was wrong, this was wrong, this was wrong. They fixed those issues and it wasn't what was wrong but I still got stuck with the bill. Than, whenever they started adding more stuff, I said no, I'll get a second opinion. They ****ed up even more things while "putting it back together".

The whole thing was shady to begin with because the mechanic kept trying to get me to sell him the car because of the engine. I refused and he said "Well if you can't afford the repairs, let me know".

I buy a new car every 3 years, I love playing the game with these dealership pricks. They all try to screw you, some approach it nicely and a some do not.

Sorry to hear they took advantage!

There is, buying used through a private owner. I've always got great deals this way and sold some of my cars more than i bought them for. There is always a desperate person needing to sell their car.

Yeah I got my car through craigslist. Had to dig pretty hard, and I have pretty much no knowledge of cars. Just used common sense, mainly. The listing was very detailed, we met up, I gave it a spin and coming up on 4 years later with only one trip to the shop for some work.

Anyone tried stuff like TrueCar or whatever they are? Supposed to be hassle free, no haggling and all that junk.
