    Dieting After Surgery

Ten years ago I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (similar to crohn's). I was very fit, muscular, but underwent many medications, including three doses of steroids, Humira injections, etc.

Three years ago I underwent an ileostomy. I was supposed to be in hospital a week, ended up being 3 weeks plus various complications, including an abscess in the surgery area. I had a bag and lost a lot of weight

The next year (two years ago), I had my reversal. Again there were many complications and even though I was supposed to stay 2-3 days in hospital, it was closer to a month. My weight came back, I developed a larger hernia behind my belly button (where they poked around), and they created a j-pounch, which mimics a large intestine, which was removed in Surgery 1.

Anyways, I find that I cannot eat many foods. Nuts, breads, milks (cow, almond, rice, soy, etc), ANYTHING green, most fruits and vegetables, etc, my body cannot handle. My body is not prepared for exercise yet (I try swimming, elliptical, walking), and combined with the fact that I cannot handle most healthy foods, I find my ballooning and cannot do anything about it.

My wife and I are expecting my first child and I want to enjoy life with him. I'm 31, but my body feels like I'm in my 60s or 70s.

Anyone experience something similar? Any strategies?

    Re: Dieting After Surgery

I'm pretty well versed in nutrition, but this is waaaay beyond my scope...

I would get recommendations for nutritionists from your doctors and also comb the web for homeopathic nutritionists...

If you live in Ontario, proximity to Toronto is going to be a huge plus in this search...

    Good luck!
