    Need Help from Car Experts

Can someone please tell me what this sound is?

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ANPG6gYDq5s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This is when I turn the wheel, when I'm fully stopped.

I thought it was the ball joints, but my mechanic said they look good. But this is a new mechanic so my I'm having some trust issues.

Tie rods is my first thought. My first car was going to need them before I it got replaced and it would do something similar some times. Bearings is another possibility but that's usually a different sound.

^ Bad bearings show themselves when you're moving as an incresingly loud hum as you go faster. My rear passenger bearing needs replacing in the worst way right now, but I keep putting it off. It's not a total bank-breaking fix, but it isn't cheap either.

Sounds like tie rods to me, had an s10 that made a very similar noise when turning the wheel all the way like that.

But they also make a whining sound when you turn the wheel all the way. Whining rather than creaking though which is why I don't think it's that. My first car did that too. When I got them replaced, the guy said they were in terrible shape. He was surprised I didn't have any other problems at that point.

That sound could be any number of things. Things that come to mind right away would be bushings, tie rod ends, worn shocks/ struts, or even the strut mount. Ball joints could be another cause but you said they were fine so I'll assume that's not the issue. What's year and model of the car and the vehicles mileage?

Ah, I think since my bad bearing experiences have always popped up on back wheels, I've never heard that sound associated with bad bearings.

for the struts you can test by putting your weight on the car at the wheels and see if it makes the noise when compressed or released

Thanks for the reply guys. I took it to the mechanic and they said it was both the lower ball joints and the upper control arm.

Anyone have an estimate as to how much these should cost to replace? I'm getting between the 800-1000 range.
