If this guy was your practitioner, I don't think you'll be hearing from them any time soon, but I'd say it was more than viable.

In all seriousness, within 24 hours your blood's test results (for infectious diseases, I assume) are transferred to another facility, and it is they who notify you if any tests are positive. They'll discard them if so. If not, I believe they are good for transfusion. Not sure if they notify you in that case.
