$5 for pasta? Maybe if all you're putting in it is sauce and some cheese.

Even if you go store-brand all the way you'll be lucky to have anything decent.

Hell, even a sandwich costs more than that.

Lol,and that's my point. I actually never thought of new Leafs stuff cause past number of years, no reason to get new stuff. But with new logo/new gear, nice idea. Which is why I want suggestions from others, even small suggestions could help.

Sometimes people do have good ideas they like to share/items they find interesting and think it'd make a nice gift.

SmartHome stuff for example is one thing I'd recommend for people if they ask me about gift ideas for others. Ability to control things in your house like lights, heat, dvr, without being home. Just basic things you can find at best buy to convert parts of your house into that. Wifi outlets for example are nice little thing to get if you come home late or go on vacation and wanna turn on lights at certain time without using unreliable/old school timers.

Why don't you just spare yourself the stress and tell them just to get you a Christmas Card and call it a day?

And stuff must be cheap up there if you're making a meal that can last a few days for only $5. Unless you're growing your own ingredients.

When someone asks me what I want for Christmas, I say "nothing" and I mean it.

But now that I think about it, I should just say I want silence. It's still technically "nothing."

In summer time ya, just basic vegetables like tomatoes, lettuce and stuff.

I didn't mean exactly $5, just an approximate guess.

A box of pasta noodles is about $2, and combined price of all other ingredients I think would just be a few dollars. They're not all just one time uses either. For example, if buying seasoning stuff, it might be a few dollars, but it lasts for months. Same goes with vegetables and other stuff too in case of items like sandwiches, wraps and other meals.

All depends where you shop at times. Here at least, we got 4-5 major stores for groceries, and prices can differ so much on exact same brand of stuff. You could pay $4.99 at one store for an item, and in another store somehow ends up $2.50 for same amount/same brand, not even on sale either. And certain items, despite being "no name brands", are actually made by the same people who make the bigger name brand stuff too(it's a tip I learned from someone who knows all about reading the codes on the boxes/bags that stuff comes in)

Here are a few ideas and things I tell people I'm interested in, if they are asking for gift ideas.

                    1.) Golf shirts
2.) Hoodies or T-shirts with the Bills, Steelers or Norte Dame on it. Inset your favourite teams.
3.) Books. I love to read.
                    4.) Anything Star Wars related
5.) Nike socks. There is nothing better than new socks, especially in new shoes.

These are simple gift ideas under $50. Hope this helps

Get a couple of cans of black-eye peas with some rice. Be sure to add plenty of Tony Chachere's to the peas. You can also add meats (ham, turkey), sauteed vegetables (onions, bell pepper) or some beef or chicken bouillon cubes for extra flavor if you have any. Serve over rice with crackers or corn bread. That's what I ate during college and still eat it today. It's pretty tasty.

*Really all you need are the peas and rice which is less than $5. The rest are just extras

Exactly. If you look at right places and find right things, you can manage to make healthy meals for yourself without spending so much money. But most people are just used to certain way of doing things, they don't think twice about if they could even have different options that are slightly cheaper.

I was actually incharge of creating a workshop in the past which related to this topic(making quick meals at cheaper prices in order to save money and still eat healthier). Learned alot myself by doing that too.

Sure, there's lots of quick/cheap items you can buy in stores to make, but obviously lots of them aren't good for you(like anything with ramen noodles or freezer foods and so on), but over time if you can use even 1 good/cheaper/healthy dish suggestion from each person you know, it adds up quick.

The in-laws caught a parrot in their yard this evening. Their daughter being the animal lover, it looks like we get to go pick up another feathered friend tonight. We've already got two parakeets that they caught last summer.

It wasn't wild. It jumped on their head.

I found the owner though! Craigslist list ad posted 30 minutes ago. Had pics of the bird. It's totally him.
