Going back to college late in life. Anyone done it?
I am attempting to go back to college at the age of 37 years old this fall (I'll be 38 during the fall semester). I am going back to get my degree in business finance. It has nothing to do with what I'm doing now, but I am kicking around the idea of making a career change this late in life, which is whole other discussion.
Has anyone else gone back this late? Am I crazy for doing so? What should I expect?I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Tons of people do it. Heck my 65 yr old neighbor went back to college last fall and my 50 yr old brother in law went back to college 3 years ago. They both said it is a lot easier now because at this age you already lived life and therefore aren't tempted by things like you are when you were a teenager or in your early 20s. You are more focused and relaxed. -

I am 40 and I am about to complete my masters in education. I was fortunate that mine was 100% online. I couldn't imagine taking on site college classes at this stage in life. Are you doing online? How many hours are you taking? How many do you lack for your degree?

I plan on taking 8 hours a semester.
I haven't started working towards this degree so I would be starting from scratch. Not sure how many is required for the degree, but I'm hopeful its not too many.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Being a youngin...I just finished but I had some classes and I saw a lot of older people getting their degrees. Some were old and some had gone to the military right out of high school and decided to get their degree after that. Most were military. But I know my school is famous for older generations to go back and get their degree.

If you go to a larger school, no one will even notice and will be plenty of other people around your age group. There are plenty of 30, 40, 50 year olds on campus at MSU for example. When I graduated I'd say my class was 10% 30+ year olds.
I'm allowed to submit med school apps starting tomorrow and will be 26, when I start med school in fall 2017. While not the same kind of gap, I was out of school for 2 years before I decided to go back and finish up what pre-reqs I needed to take in my attempt to get into med school and I'm about 4 years older than most applicants. The last couple of years I have been working as an EMT, Firefighter, and ER tech but I actually graduated with a bachelor's in journalism. My undergrad gpa was 3.27 because I didn't take it very seriously. But since returning I have a a 4.0, with a cumulative 4.0 scienceGPA And got a very high MCAT score, so I should be able to get into a pretty good school.
Sorry for the CSB... but It's really not that uncommon anymore to go back to school.Comment
