Woo hoo! Yes you can beat City Hall!!
Yes you can beat City Hall! After two months of appealing the Unemployment offices denial of my first two weeks of pay on my claim I had my hearing yesterday with the Governors office and they ruled in my favor today! I'm so excited, $900 is a lot of money when you're not working!!
Here is what happened: to get benefits you have to complete certain requirements (upload your resume, register with a website, etc). One of the requirements is to complete what is referred to as a "career profile assessment"
So I went to the site and completed everything in my letter. There was nothing on the site that said "career profile assessment" but I did see a "career plan" and completed it.
As it turns out there is a "career plan" and a "career profile", two different things, but only one is on the front page of the site: "career plan" which is as I said what I did complete. I believed that was what they were referring to in my qualification letter when they said "career profile assessment" since that was not an option anywhere on the site that I could find.
Anyways, as it turns out...there is no such thing as a "career profile assessment" on the page. There's a "career profile" but it doesn't show up by default on the page, it's buried in the sub menus. And again there is a "career plan" at the top middle of the page when one logs in and that is what I completed.
So I argued to the Governors office that I did fill out what any reasonable person would believe to be what was in the letter. I made sure that I hammered home the point that the website had no such option titled "career profile assessment". I said that the language was erroneous in the ODJFS literature and any reasonable person would believe that career profile assessment was, in fact, the career plan listed on the front page. The Governors office agreed with me.
Makes me wonder if now they will update the site and/or the letter to match...and also makes me wonder how many other people have been screwed out of money because of the language issue...
