Re: Off Topic 2017: Socks in Bed?
So I wanna know what you guys think about this...
I'm selling a phone on ebay and I think I may have narrowly avoided a scam.
Basically what happened is I listed the phone for $500 obo. Less than 5 minutes after I listed it someone made me an offer of $385. I countered with $400. They accepted.
So about 10 minutes later they sent me a message saying they tried to pay me but it wouldn't go through because I have my paypal settings to only accept US currency. Well this person told me that while they have a US shipping address (which they did) they were based in the Ukraine. And because of this I needed to change my paypal to accept foreign currency.
They said they had a Ukrainien paypal account, but the money was USD.
I read something about exchange rates and it says paypal takes exchange rates into account. So I looked at the exchange rate and it was something like 1USD = less than one cent in Ukrainian money. But they assured me it would convert to the $400.
So after a little research, which didn't give me a concrete answer about what to do, I decided to tell them I would not change the setting and I wanted to cancel the sale.
So they wrote me back and said ok no problem. So I went ahead and canceled it and relisted it.
So what do you guys think? Did I narrowly avoid a scam or could this have been legit?Comment

I'm no ebay or paypal expert but that does sound scammy
edit: but I should also mention I'm always paranoid about scams and being taken advantage of, so I'm biasedLast edited by l3ulvl; 09-26-2017, 10:43 PM.Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Looks like the type I see in my house so often. I don't know how many I've killed, but minus flies, I've easily killed this kind of bug than probably all others(including ants) COMBINED. They're EVERYWHERE. I've even bought one of those things you plug into the outlet that's supposed to make noise to drive them away....it doesn't help.Comment

Not terribly big, the body size was maybe that of a powerade cap, kinda like a skinny 100 cig filter, it was the legs that tripped me out hahaWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

I usually see them in summer. Mainly later in day and they often hide in darker spots in house.Comment

I believe it was a scam.
We have this happen at my work on occasion. Someone will go thru our website and request high dollar testing equipment and want us to accept foreign currency with a poor exchange rate.
Sent from my iPhone using Operation SportsI can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
