Re: Off Topic 2017: Because this isn't overtime

Went to Lowes today to look around at faucets. I found one I liked but needed to ask an associate a question whether it had a pop-up drain rod as I couldn't tell from the display or the product box.

The guy was obvious in his contempt either he had to work on a Saturday evening or that I asked a question so I tried to be as nice as I could be. I saw a similar faucet head from the same company on display and it had a pop-up drain rod so I told the guy: "This one does and it's similar." The guy apathetically says "Ok." then walks away.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Questions for y'all: When exactly did the "Hot Take" Era blow up into what it is today?

And my second question, which do y'all prefer: The Instant Hot Take analysis of Sports or do you prefer the objective breakdown analysis without the takes?

          1) I started noticing it when Around the Horn and PTI were starting to get popular, but I know it probably started earlier than that.

          2) Honestly it depends on who it is. Some people can give reasoned and analytical hot takes while others can't give objective breakdowns no matter how much time they allow themselves.

I wish I knew the answer to the first question, but as for the second, at least as it pertains to game analysis, I'd prefer that they'd take an objective look at the game and break down what happened: what went right, what didn't, etc. You can second guess and say what you'd do differently all day long, but I don't want to hear about it. Hindsight is always 20/20. Just look at what they did, break down the schemes, show where the play went wrong or right. That's what I care about.

Objective analysis. I'm presuming not many watch NFL Matchup due to its timeslot but it is/was a great show surrounding pure X's/O's without debate. Same with MLB Network when they do breakdowns. I enjoy analysis on different strategies, mindsets, player breakdowns, play breakdowns, etc....things which educate the viewer.

I tire quickly of debates on the actual game and the woulda/coudla/shoulda discussion and people talking over each other. I still don't get why ESPN and other programs continue to push this. The only three shows I really enjoy the roundtable/type debate on is ATH, Mike&Mike and PTI.

Loved both shows. I was thinking of BDSS about it when watching IT the other day because of the Chris Rose connection.

Surprised Stump the Schwab was your first glimpse of Stu Scott. That's almost like hearing Sports Jeopardy is the first time you heard of Dan Patrick haha. I always impressed my dad with Stump the Schwab. I remember one when they were listing HRD winners and I pretty much nailed the ones I could or whatever, and he was like, "How did you know Miguel Tejada won in 2004?" He's asking more like, "... How does that irrelevant bit of information register in your life?" Just funny stuff haha.

                        1. I feel like it was around '07-'08. That's when ESPN started doing stupid **** like the Who's Now tournament and turning Cold Pizza into First & 10, which became First Take. PTI and ATH set the format, but I always felt like they were way more resembling of objective, intelligent discourse.

                        2. Take-free, objective analysis by far. As far as sports TV/radio, I really only listen to the Le Batard Show because it's basically the antithetical sports show and they're the complete opposite of everything else on ESPN that I hate, and when they do the stereotypical stuff, it's always tongue in cheek/hilarious.

Guys, the Patti Labelle Banana Pudding from Wal-Mart is the truth. It's obviously not as good as some homemade Banana Puddings, but very good for a store bought pie.
