Anyone had this happen? I'm driving about 45 down a busy city 5 lane street (these are just details, not pertinent to the original question), and my vehicle just shuts off. Like, everything quit, power steering, breaks, everything. It was as big of a panic situation as life could ever send me, and I have a panic disorder. Not good!

Anyway, for some strange reason I amazingly didn't panic, pulled the manual steering into the nearest parking lot, didn't collide with anyone, finally came to a stop right in front of a curb and a dumpster. People from the adjacent gas station gawking over like wtf.

This concludes the "has this happened to you?" portion. I've never been driving and had a car just shut off like that, it was terrifying!

So, I couldn't figure it out, I'm not a car guy so that's no surprise, then a few helpful people from the car wash I found refuge in came to assist (seriously, I undervalue people, I usually hate everyone but there was an incredible amount of helpful people today)

there were about 10 possible problems diagnosed (another shocker), a wrecker was called... SOB took 2 hours to get me and tow me less than a mile... all while it was hot AF today, at least the lady at the gas station let me hang out in there while I waited.

But anyway, I'm getting way off track, and not looking for more possible diagnostics lol (alternator, fuel pump, fuel filter, carburetor, starter, battery, heard 'em all), so to the original question, has anyone ever had a car completely shut down while driving?

Pfft, all my hoopties did when I delivered pizzas. **** became a regular thing and I would just call the tow dude I became cool with as a result of these hoopties. Have him drop it off at the local mechanic, head home and wait.

Yep I've had it happen two times on two different vehicles. Both times it was the alternator. The 2nd time, it amazingly happened right before a repair shop, so I just coasted into their parking lot and avoided that tow cost.

I have also had an engine blow while driving down the highway.

That sounds hella odd, usually your Rs need to be crazy high to blow an engine.

Were you in neutral or something lol?

No, some kind of major oil line failure. Oil drained out of the engine in seconds. Just a crazy stroke of bad luck.

I've had a number of times my car went out and it could be anything.

Good thing to have AAA, well worth the membership

With NBA finals also done now, just wanted to see how people would rank championship celebrations between the big 4 leagues?

NHL where team jumps over bench to celebrate, then shake loses hands and each guy gets turn skating with cup.

NBA with the stage at center court and surrounded by everyone where ownership gets trophy and everyone puts their hands in to touch it

NFL with the legends walking the trophy to the podium surrounded by the Winni team, and eventually coach and star player on top the podium with the trophy

MLB where if the game ends with winning team on defense, all guys just run down the field to the mound and celebrate, and trophy presentation happens on field by the mound.

For me, I'd rank it:
NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB

I change the channel once the game is over unless it's some sort of historical thing ie Cavs/Cubs

You know what sucks? Growing up. Being an adult. Being single and having your roommate move in with his new girlfriend, becoming the third wheel and having to move all your stuff into a new apartment on short notice.

My second vehicle (99 Civic) locked up on me on the highway when the oil pump decided to quit working.

We had a pretty weird moment at dinner last night. Our waitress was apparently either extremely drunk or on drugs. To keep it short she had already been told to leave and had left, but came back in and started waiting on us.

At first I though she was overly friendly, but when she brought our chips in the dip container and our salsa and bean dip were both turned upside down in the chip basket, then I knew something was wrong. By the time we could tell the manager he already kicked her out again.

He was extremely embarrassed and apologetic, but it really wasn't that big of a deal to us. We ordered the fajitas "for one" to share and she put in the fajitas "for two" (we only had to pay for one). Now I have leftover for lunch today, so something good did come out of all the awkwardness.
