The Mandela Effect

If you haven't heard of this, it's a very interesting phenomenon. It's basically a theory of the existence of the multiverse and how multiple universes can overlap.

The example using Nelson Mandela is that so many people believe with 100% certainty that he died in prison when in fact that is not the case.

Another fun example is the Berenstain Bears. So many people fully remember them actually being the Berenstein Bears.

It may sound like just mis-remembering something but it's more like a you know for a fact that you had a blue bike when you are a kid but then find out it was actually red.

Just thought this might be a fun discussion.

I've heard of this but never understand what it's trying to say. The Berenstain example to me is a good one. I read those books. I thought it was Berenstein because we pronounced it that way. If you asked me how it was spelled I would say Berenstein. You then tell me, no it's Berenstain. Is that amazing?

No, because I haven't read a Berenstain Bears book in 15 years. It's not that I have some vivid memory of reading Berenstein Bears books as much as I have a very vague memory of reading the books in which the spelling of the title was never important. I have a false recollection of the spelling because it was never important to me how to spell it and then I tried to recreate it based on that half image. An example on Wikipedia is people think Sinbad was in Shazam. That's ridiculous lol. Everyone I know is well aware that Shaq was in Kazaam, and even people my age remember Sinbad, but not for a movie called Shazam.

I think the Internet is playing tricks on people. Once one person says something crazy, a bunch more people follow. Like UFO sightings. Now it's a part of the lexicon. People are outside looking for something that doesn't exist. "Oh wow that guy wasn't crazy, I saw lights in the sky behind my house!!" Then with strength in numbers more people jump in.

This reminds me of the movie Shazam with Sinbad. A lot of people said this movie never did exist. But there are a lot of others around my age remember this movie quite well.

It's just a fun thing to talk about really. There is some science behind the Multiverse Theory, so it's fun to say "Wow I swear this happened this way, and not that way." And then wonder why the hell you were so sure. I'm not even saying I believe in it. I just think it's interesting and fun to hear what others are so sure is true and others are so sure is false.

If you're going by the true definition of The Mandela Effect, then yes, that would be the thought.

But like I said before, I really don't think most people really believe this any more than say a crazy coincidence meaning there is more to it.

It's basically an internet thing that is more haha this is funny than it is this is serious stuff here.

I think some people might be taking this more seriously than I intended it to be. It's definitely interesting, but not proof of anything.
