I fairly certain there is a lot more women that can hit a home run than can dunk a basketball

Even all those softball players who are beefy...no way they can hit it out. Maybe a couple. And those are the best of the best. It's just like women being able to dunk.

The main difference between these two tasks is that with one task you can literally have zero coordination or skill but if you're tall enough you can dunk.

this exactly my line of thought coupled, with there being pleny of people tall enough to dunk who dont even play basketball. one my states senator is 6'9 (Luther Strange) and I wouldnt be surprised if he could dunk back in his younger days. my biggest question is how tall is tall enough. I previously threw out the number 6'8. I wonder if there are people out there who are 7 foot that cant dunk.
throw in another 2 feet (?) for arm span and thats only a little over one foot they have to jump.

I'm fairly certain the answer is dunk a ball...just in playing pickup hoops over the years, there is always a handful of guys on the floor who can throw it down. The bat speed necessary to hit a homer is taken for granted because the pros make it look so easy, but I doubt most people have it.

This reminds me of back in 2003 I went to an Orioles game...it was interleague against the Phillies and they were celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 1983 WS matchup. They thought it would be fun to have a home run derby for the big guns from those teams, so Mike Schmidt, Eddie Murray, Gary Mathews, etc were out there. By this time these guys were in their late 40's/mid-50's...it was pathetic. Nobody hit the ball more than 300 feet and the whole event was a real dud...the bat speed was gone.

Before I posted that I watched videos of some teenage girl players hitting the crap out of baseballs, but that was with aluminium bats.

I would say dunking a basketball is more easily achieved for the reasons stated above. Even if you're a fat slob you could probably get the absolute minimum height to dunk the ball. That being said I know I can't do either LOL!

I think it'd *easily* be more people who can dunk.

                  This is training.

It's certainly easier to learn the mechanics of a swing than training to increase your jumping ability, but that's not the question.

No, it's not. I'm talking about what was stated in the OP, taking them to a ballpark and throwing balls until they get one out. I think it would take John from accounting about a week until he gets to the point where he's close to the fence, given that he's somewhat coordinated.

OP said "swing until they get tired" and that's what I'm going off of. It would take about a week of that to even get to the warning track in the shortest of parks for a normal bro.

My answer is still home run, but a very small percent of the average citizens can show up and touch one. With dunks it's a "you either have it or you don't thing".

I don't really know what you're saying. You think someone is going to swing for 7 days straight before they're tired?

I'm really not. I'm trying to understand what you're saying.

You say you're not talking about training, but you keep talking about it taking a week or 2 to get one out for the average person. The scenario is they go to the park and try until they're tired. Unless you're saying the average person can swing for a week or 2 straight without getting tired, then I can only assume you're saying they get to come back everyday and keep trying. If that's not training, then I don't know what you call it.
