    Re: 2018 Fitness Challenge

Since I moved into an office job opposed to doing field service work, I've been able to plan out my day a bit better.

I've been waking up on weekdays around 4:15-20 am in order to give myself time to get to the gym, workout, shower, etc. and then get to work.

I've been eating a banana and maybe some flavored oatmeal for breakfast on top of a light Protein shake from the gym to work. Then I've been eating baked veggies and some variation of blackened chicken for lunch. Then afternoon mostly eating a Nature Valley protein bar or something light. I also drink at least 2 liters of water throughout the day.

I was making sandwiches, packing snack crackers, and eating soups for lunch. The problem is I would eat too many crackers or eating two sandwiches and I really don't need all of those carbs. I was also drinking the mocha java Monsters in the morning on the way to work and that's gone too.

It may not be the healthiest alternative, but I'm hoping if I keep it up I'll see some results down the line. I've gained about 20 pounds since I got out of the Navy.. smh.

Ever since I got my 4:59 mile I've been a fat slob.

I hate motivation, because I hate when I don't have any.

Yeah, I haven't exercised for four days. The drastic weather changes and time change have really affected me more than normal. Planning on going all out today, though.

Half-Marathon training is going well. It was nice to run on some new routes last week when I was out of town for work. Managed to get three runs on the trip, which kept me on track, and then did a nice 6-mile run the other day.

This weekend will have my first longer run of the training, likely 7.5 miles. The cooler weather in AZ makes running in the morning or afternoon very easy.

We're trying to walk and be more active but actual workout time is impossible right now (4 year old boy and twin 2 year old girls lol)....

We have started intermittent fasting, which has been working well for me. I was around 208 lbs and a month and a half ago or so I started and now around 198. Essentially I just eat between 10 and 6 and it helps me cut out calories I probably didn't need (snacking and things like that)...Nothing magic vs. just reducing calories, but the eating period keeps me more on track.

I just do coffee or tea other times, along with water....

I'm already thinking about my health resolutions for the upcoming year. Something about Thanksgiving makes me start thinking about that type of stuff.

Anyway, my goal is to go hiking at least once a month. When worded that way it sounds pretty minimal, but considering I haven't been hiking in a year or two then the bar is pretty low to begin with.

I'm not sure what other kind of resolutions I would like to make, but that's the primary one.

I'm in the process of switching up my lifting splits after a couple of months of the same routine. Also, contemplating a beer-fast from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I'm only a six-pack-over-a-weekend guy, but that's probably 1200-1500 calories I need to burn, plus the effects of the alcohol on fat-burning even if it doesn't result in a huge surplus.

Considering all the extra goodies that tend to surface this time of year, I think it might be a good sacrifice. Of course, I'll then go to my parents for vacation over Christmas, drink 2-3 beers a day, and eat cookies for a week. Perhaps a New Year's to the Super Bowl fast will be necessary as well.

Yeah this is easily the hardest time of the year for all that fasting talks Q.

Just go crazy and start new in 2019 lol.

Just started hitting the treadmill a few months ago and dropped a good pants size at least, fit into slim sized shirts and stuff that didnt fit well in the past.

Now I can max out the treadmill incline and burn off 900 calories in a good hour or so which pretty much tells me im about maxed out on it.

Need to move on but im not sure if i should do some kind of home workout stuff or just hit the machines because i dont want anything other than lean muscle to be honest

                    What do you guys think?

Cardio with light weights (5-10lbs to start) should be fine. You may add a little mass, but it will help tone you up more than anything else.

Best advice is to do what you enjoy. If you don't enjoy it then it won't last. I like working out at home for the simplicity and privacy, but I wouldn't mind have an elliptical or rowing machine to change things up every now and then.

100% in agreement with this. Once I stopped forcing myself to lift 4 days a week, I've enjoyed my fitness endeavors much more as I do what I want, when I want to. Certainly there's times like now where I'm locked in to more regimented workouts to prepare for a race, but I only do a couple of those a year, so most of the time it's a free-flowing thing with me. Some weeks I'll ride my bike more, others I'll run and there's some where it's more weights/classes.

Definitely, need to customize. Sitting here thinking how many days i actually want to go to the gym and do the rest at home the other days

Only contemplating it now that i've reached the point that im at. Some days i want to be out around people even though im not interacting with them.

Other days my body just doesn't feel it even though i still feel like working out, i might just hop on the seated stationary bike i have in the room but i always hate that im not burning as many calories
