    Re: 2018 Fitness Challenge

Switched gyms recently and have been taking some group fitness classes with my wife. It's been a lot of fun, both the classes and working out with my wife. Still running/biking 2-3 times a week.

I am so far off pace its not even funny.

Between dealing with kidney stones and my Dad's health issues, getting into a routine and sticking with it has been difficult.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Don't worry about it; don't get down on yourself. Life happens. Just get back on the horse whenever you can and start again. Progress is not a straight line up.

I ordered a pair of the Powerblock Elite dumbbells recently. When I ordered them they were on backorder with an estimated delivery date of September through December. I just got a notification that they've shipped and will be delivered on Thursday.

          https://www.amazon.com/PowerBlock-El...ttl_B00G7RHGNY

I'm pretty stoked. The a set of rubber hex dumbbells, but they max out at 25lbs and I plateaued on curls and chest exercises awhile back (got them for Christmas). Rather than keep getting individual dumbbells I decided to save money (and space) and go for the adjustable plates. The cool thing about the elites is they can expanded to 70 and 90 pounds.

I should be good to go for awhile.

It gets better with time. That's actually one of the hardest things to deal with when you start lifting again after taking such a long time off. But if you stretch enough before and after lifting and you're staying on top of your diet, this period of being sore lasts very shortly.

So I just started the Carnivore diet after watching Jordan Peterson on Rogan's podcast since he mentioned his psoriasis healed during the diet. I been on it for about 10 days but the first two days I had peanut butter so I'll say 8 days now and wow I haven't felt this great in a long time. My psoriasis is starting to heal and losing about 5 pounds. It's probably all water weight but its a good sign.

If you aren't familiar with the diet, its basically 100 percent meat. Crazy i know but I've tried everything with no luck. I'll see how long I can go but I'm gonna do at least one month and go from there.

I'll talk about my cardio program later as I'm trying again to break a 5-minute mile again like I tried to last summer. Only last time my knee started to give way and it shut me down to the point I stopped running. As for my mile running for my current summer-running program, my best stands is at 5:16.8, which means I still have a long way to go (my all-time best was 4:50 in my sophomore year of high school).

Anyhow, on Friday I did a 3.5 mile (total) hill run, and had a cramp on the entire downhill that I just decided to run through. I guess it was a bad decision, because more than 48 hours later I'm still feeling the cramp with every step that I take, and I mean walking steps in my house. I didn't feel it Friday night at all, but I did when I woke up Saturday morning. I hope I didn't injure a muscle doing what I did. Maybe it wasn't a regular side cramp like I thought that it was.

Rib cage area? Could be inflammation in the muscle. I bruised my ribs a couple of years back and it took over a week to completely go away. Lot of immobilization with ice should help.

Below the rib cage, right side of my stomach a little above the belly button area in height.

I've been immobile since I ran pretty much, except for walking as I said. No ice yet, hmph. I want to try and get on my bike tomorrow night, like 24 hours from now. Hopefully I'll either feel better by then or biking doesn't hurt/worsen it. I'd like to run again on Tuesday afternoon if possible.

After spending close to a month now going to group exercise classes with my wife two-to-three times a week, I have to admit, these (mostly) ladies put in work! I'll admit, I tended to look down on many of those group classes over the years, but now that I've seen and gone through the classes, they are most definitely a good workout and the group dynamic does make the classes fun.

I'm glad I gave these classes an honest try. It's added variety to my workouts, which is always a good thing.

Totally agree. I always thought group classes were kinda lame. I think it's a guy thing (LOL).

I started going to 1 once a week or so, and it really is a killer cardio workout. It's a good change of pace from the standard weight training. Lifting is one thing, but I honestly can't keep up in these classes and usually take a set or two off. Meanwhile, these housewives are like kicking my *** all over the gym.

Side benefit is there are occasionally some pretty attractive women in the classes. That's never a bad thing.

I've been contemplating this since listening to the same podcast. At least trying it for a month. Joe had Dr. Shawn Baker on late last year and he's a big proponent of that diet as well but I didn't know anything about it until hearing Jordan Peterson talk about it.

Anyone else prefer to workout in long sleeves even during the summer months?

I'm not a tank top lemme flex in the mirror guy and It's a lot easier than just sweating all over the equipment at the gym and sliding around (gross right?).

Mile time I got today was 5:11.445. Still regressing enough each lap to say that I really gotta get that back-end going stronger if I plan to break five minutes.

And I can't do anything physically exerting in sleeves.
