    Christmas 2018

    Merry Christmas.

It’s that time of year again...for some of us and with 49 days until the big day, I thought it was time. I know, I know, it’s too early for some and I understand that. If that’s the case for you, I hope that you will join us here when your ready and feeling festive.

For me, I think about Christmas all year long. I enjoy the season so much, I start celebrating November 1st. Recently, I found out that in the Philippines they start celebrating September 1st. They are my kind of people. I was over joyed that I found that out. Also, with my daughter who is almost 3, it’s even more exciting for me. She loves to talk about Santa and more importantly candy canes. She is obsessed with them.

The other day, Mary and I took a little trip to Lowe’s to see their Christmas decorations. She was running around pointing at all the decorations and came upon a Christmas tree and said, “Daddy, take a picture of me”. Then struck a pose.

Don’t ask me who taught her this, but she did it on her own. She’s growing up way too quickly.

As for Christmas at The Stewart’s, we are in a bit of a holding pattern. We are in the midst of major reno’s. That’s an entire different story. That being said, at present we only have 2 trees up and about 50% of our decorations. The rest of the decorations and trees will go up in a few weeks...hopefully.

So on November 1st we put up the tree in the living room and the little tree up on the piano.

I’m looking forward to putting up the garland, wreathes and other decorations. I don’t have my tree up in my den, but with the new fireplace installed it should only be a couple days until it goes up and pictures will soon follow. We also have our outdoor lights on as well. As you can see in the picture below.

I would also like to add, that Star 102.5 Buffalo started playing Christmas music on Monday and SiriusXM has had 3 stations playing Christmas music since November 1st.

As with every year, I hope that you all add your pictures and comments to this thread. I look forward to starting this thread and I look forward to sharing the glorious Christmas season with all of you. I will also have more picture to come as we put more decorations up.

Again, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all.

This is our second year with our elf Al. My daughter and I read the book a lot and she’s looking forward to Al’s return.

Do you have the official Elf on the Shelf dvd? It's called An Elf's Story. It's about a 30 minute mini movie. My son has already watched it a couple of times already.

My son just turned 2, so this Christmas will be exciting but I think next year it’ll be big time. Good... we’re traveling [emoji58][emoji52] this year... taking a long break after this year though so he gets to wake up at home during the most magical years of Christmas as a kid. We never went anywhere as kids, so maybe I’m selfishly passing off my own experience, but damn it Christmas ain’t the same away from home.

One of my fondest memories growing up is having a smallish party every Christmas Eve. I’m sure the adults got drunk while we played around, but I always loved the finger foods. LOL. I still get excited for the holidays because feasts are such a big part of a gathering to me, and we eat well this time of year!

Yes sir. That and the book. She hasn’t watched it yet though, right now she is stuck on watching T’was The Night Before Christmas by Rank and Bass. It’s the only special she wants to watch right now. I think we will watch it the night before Al The Elf returns to the Stewart’s.

It’s the same thing for me. Waking up at home and opening presents was how it was growing up for me. Then we would either have people over or go to my cousins or my grandparents. I think it’s important for my daughter to have the same experiences. Going to bed in your own home is part of the magic.

                        Re: Christmas 2018

I completely agree. Some of my most favorite childhood memories were waking up early christmas morning at home. We had a wood burning stove my dad would always get up early and start. My mom would make fresh cinnamon rolls and the smell would permeate the house while christmas music played.

Last Christmas eve and day I worked in the ER and spent the late night eating a frozen days. I miss the younger days and am hopeful that in the future I will get back to that. This year I am just on call so fingers crossed for a quiet holiday.

I'm taking my son to see it as well..although not sure when exactly.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Our son will be 2 in the middle of January and it's crazy to see how much just one year does. Last year he was crawling around and sort of tearing at presents and come this Christmas he will be running around and babbling to people. It snowed here this morning and when he went outside to get into the car before going to daycare he put his hands to his cheeks and yelled "WOW!" Then he started stomping in the snow and laughing and clapping.

I'm so excited to see his face Christmas morning when he sees all his presents.
