Guys and gals, I need some help Christmas shopping for my kids...

I have a five year old boy and an 8 year old girl. We're looking at consoles and trying to figure out if we should get the PS4 or the Switch. I've no idea which way to go. Any tips?

Thanks in advance for any advice, it's much appreciated!

Actually there are a ton of games for the under 10 crowd on both PS4 and Xbox One. You just have to go their online store and filter it. You will be shocked by how many there are.

Maybe this is older-school thinking, but for most of my life, I think if the question is younger kids (pre-teen or below), the answer is "Nintendo".

Thank you for your responses. It's very much appreciated. We're leaning Switch, but I'll see what PS4 has.

Tried to talk my 7 year old son into wanting a switch, he has zero interest. Take that for what it's worth.

I have an 8 year old daughter and she loves her Nintendo Switch. She loves the handheld aspect of it. She doesn’t have many games but tends to play the LEGO games until they are worn out. Lol

She does play some games on the PS4 but the Switch is her system. One of the best things I ever bought her. Hope that helps!

Get a ps4. Gift for them, but you use it more lol.

Seriously though, if you're gonna use it too, get ps4. Though if price and other things will be a factor, look up cost of both, including games and so on. And look up the games you'd think they'd wanna play on either to see which is better value.

Yeah....it's tough. My 4 year old we play a few lego games but he has like zero patience, so we play for like 10 minutes and move onto non-gaming stuff. I know eventually he'll like it.

Nintendo has kid stuff for sure, but not sure Mario or Zelda are necessarily that easy for young kids. It really just depends on what they're into.

Short attention span, why not try app games? Or if you get console, maybe give him demos to play?

Thanks for the response guys. We're going ps4, for now. We'll eventually get a Switch.

My kids are nuts for the Lego games. We own 4 or five for the ps3. We'll be buying them for the ps4 as well...and I'll be getting mlb 18 eventually.

Well, we ended up with both. Their Nana bought the Black Friday PS4. Our Roomba went out, was on warranty, we got store credit back and got the Switch. We bought Mario Kart, we're about to get Zelda after checking it out at the library (wow). I've already bought MLB 16 ($5 Gamestop) and in time will get 17 ($10) and 18 to make sure my stuff transfers to 19 when I pick it up in May (I wait for discounts and patches and reports from you guys).

I hope Nintendo makes a Punchout for the Switch. That would be fun.
                        Thanks for the help everyone!
