    Re: 2019 Fitness Adventures

Ever since I ran my 4:59 mile in October, I haven't done crap. Motivation is a bitch.

Honestly, I think the problem was Red Dead 2.

Hopefully I'll be jumping into it again soon!

      Re: 2019 Fitness Adventures

Someone help me a bit as I am confused on CICO.

Trying to count calories, but I get different carloie allotment depending on where I look.

For instance - My Fitness Pal - 2lbs a week it says 1500

My Plate APP- 1448 will have my lose 1lb a week 1200 is 1.5

Search websites and it says 1348 for 1.5 lbs a week.

I don't want to over do it and go over. I seem to think counting calories a week is a bit better. As long as I don't go over a lot on a certain day.

      Thanks!

My wife and I are starting intermittent fasting today. I wasn't that sold on it, but someone from this site's results convinced me to finally agree to it.

So we are just going with the basics. 8 hour window to eat between 10am-6pm. Since I'm going to school at night some week days after work It's going to require a bit more planning for dinner, but I'm hoping it will be worth it.

I've been running for the past 15 years or so and I would love to run a few more races but these fees are getting ridiculous. I wish every one well in their fitness plans.

Yeah, the race fees are steep these days. Doesn't help that most races no matter the distance hand out medals and gone are the days of 100% cotton shirts. The RNR at least offers a 50% discount if you enroll for the following year's race within 60 days.

Half Marathon is only 6 days away. Did my last long training run over the weekend, so now just a couple of shorter runs before the race.

16 days into no alcohol January and getting back to working out after being a lazy *** all of December. I wanted to start Couch to 5k just because I haven't ran long distance in 12 years, but said screw it cause of the weather and will hold off on that for a while. Was going to do that and Insanity Max 30 + weight lifting so just sticking with that and sprints in my backyard for now.

Intermittent fasting is probably the best I've experienced.

Personally, I subscribe to the 5 bite diet by Dr. Al Lewis. 5 bites at 11 (lunch) and 5 bites at 6 pm (dinner); so the fasting portion goes from about 6:30 PM to 11 AM the next day - total of 16 hours.

I lost 30lbs from August to September of last year. Lose about 2lbs a day. Pretty straight forward.

The best part is I can eat whatever I want, I think that's the benefit of intermittent fasting in general.

So far the hardest part for me is stomping out those late night cravings and getting up at 4:30 to go to the gym makes me hungry pretty early in the morning 8-ish.

Your body will quickly adjust to it, most likely around 2 weeks.

I did 12-8 over the summer/fall and I lost about 5 lbs which doesn't say a lot but I was only 175ish and losing those 5 lbs made me get cut. I still do IF but lately I've been snacking at night to offset the fact that I've been working out like crazy but like Matt said, you don't really need to watch what you're eating that closely but of course, better food = better results.

I actually really enjoy my workouts during my morning fast. I've noticed I sweat more and my focus is better.

Yeah IF really is amazing once you get into the habit. Lost 40 pounds in 3 months and barely worked out because of an injury. Energy levels were great and if you have any inflammation you'll start seeing that go away.

I took a month break for the holidays and gained 10 pounds pretty quick but i'm back on it now and feeling much better. Shouldn't of took a break as I had another 20 pounds I wanted to lose.

Started keto the day after Christmas. Down 15 which is a good start. Target is another 15 which will get me to around 175.

What do you eat/take to keep your energy up?

My wife is on it and she seems tired all of the time lol.

It is important to keep carbs at or below 20 grams. The first week most will get tired as the body coverts to using fat to burn for fuel. It is also important to keep water, potassium and magnesium levels up to avoid the keto flu the first week. If there is tiredness after two weeks then something isn’t right. Either lack of sleep, water intake, too much carbs or protein can all keep the body tired as it isn’t balanced.

Salt intake on keto is also a must to be able to absorb water in the tissues to stay hydrated.
