Well you're right, I don't really know. One being at night versus one in the day make it hard to compare.

But this one had that massive shockwave that looked like it was going to wipe everything out in its path. The Tianjin one looked like... well you're right, kind of like the Earth was exploding internally (EDIT: also known as imploding, duh Blzer!).

I'd still say this one was much more massive. Just hope there isn't some sort of radiation fallout like it's another Chernobyl site (I'm guessing I would have heard that by now if so).

Forgive me if I'm wrong on the exact number and I know a lot of people here don't remember the Oklahoma City Bombing but I read something today that that bombing was only 2 tons.

Yeah that's correct.

The Beirut explosion essentially leveled a city block. The video of the before/after is alarming.

The death toll for that is going to be rising everyday. With the amount of blast and force the explosion caused, they’re going to be significant internal injuries, as well as people getting blown into the water due to the force.

Ammonium nitrate is an oxidizer (reacts with air), and because of the fire, the chemical reactions were accelerated. Bad combo.

Was it stored improperly, sabotage, or an intentional act? Who knows.

Absolutely unbelievable they would store ammonium nitrate near residential neighborhoods. Kind of like building nuclear facilities next to civilians. Who the **** signs off on this stuff? Humans never learn.

Incredible HD footage of the Beirut explosion.

The actual explosion itself is at 9:36, and there is a slow-motion shot of it afterward that really shows the shockwave. The footage also captures some interesting little bits within the billowing smoke leading up to the explosion.

I know there is a YouTube videos thread but it doesn't seem very active. I just wanted to leave this here, it makes me sad. It is supposed, I guess, to be funny but instead it makes me nervously uncomfortable and I find it fascinating.
