Glad you've recovered! How did you get your injury?

Fast forward through the next decade and with the pandemic and everything else in life, I stepped on the scale in December at 230. I wasn’t happy with a lot of things.

So I set out to change that. Reading up on nutrition, getting more active. Not so much cutting out bad foods, but watching my portion sizes and cutting out late night snacking.

I stepped on the scale today at 201 (6-4 by the way). Still not a finished product. Still have a bit of this stubborn belly fat to burn off. Still have more muscle to add. I’m pleased though. When you stare at yourself everyday, you don’t notice the changes. But looking at old pictures, it reminds you of where you have been.

I can say I have successfully rewired myself. I no longer have the urges to just grab a bag of chips out of sheer boredom, or to keep eating simply because it’s there. I honestly think I have found something I can stick with.

The key take away is this. One day will not derail you. One day where you eat two slices of key lime pie or skip one workout will not completely undo all that progress. Tomorrow is a new day. Do your best and forget the rest.

That post was from the end of April.

Tipped the scales today at 189.8. I will say this...my knees and ankles don't kill me like they used to. If I can stay between 180-190, I consider this a success.

The fact I've been able to sustain this steady weight loss for such a long period of time gives me hope that I won't balloon back up as I've always had in the past.

        Re: 2022 Fitness Adventure

I started 2022 strong, continuing a strong end to 2021. But things went down hill in February after I had a toe infection, followed by a foot blister, followed by blistered heels. It took close to 2 months before all of my foot issues were healed and to a point where I could comfortably wear shoes again. By that point though I had a very hard time in getting back to a routine. I'd do a Zwift ride or a couple days of t-25 here and there, but it was just hard for me to stick with it. Somehow during this period I hit the highest weight that I've ever seen (yay for being 35) and that really convinced me that I need to get back at it.

I'm just finished week 2 of P90x3. I've really had to force myself to do a few of the workouts this week when I thought "I'll take a rest day", but I did get them done thankfully. I've lost about 5 pounds since the start of the program 2 weeks ago. 10lb to go to get back to where I was at the start of the year. Work is about to pick up in a big way this month though making it even more of a struggle to get motivated.

Just dropping in to offer encouragement to everyone, both the guys who've made great progress and those that are currently off the wagon...I'm somewhere in between right now, but trying to at least maintain a decent diet, since my exercise has gone to crap. Long view is weight loss > muscle gain at this point in my life, although I may have to re-evaluate at some point.

tomorrow will mark the end of week 3 of P90x3

I did miss the Wednesday workout this week unfortunately. One problem that I've always had with workout programs is I work in finance and the first week of every month is basically hell. Finding time to squeeze in a workout gets really difficult. I managed to get it in every other day this week though which was good.

No change in weight from last week(actually gained weight for a couple days because I tend to eat like crap during this first week, but fortunately the scale looked a little better today). I really need to work on my diet. I have been snacking way too much lately.

I have a different situation because I'm fighting agoraphobia, but I'm trying to go outside more and get some sun and exercise, I walked outside today for about 3 miles, it took me an hour, I got attacked by flying grasshoppers lol. Decent start, I want to make this a more regular thing but it's tough. Might buy a "hydration belt" because it was awkward when I tried to jog for a bit with my water bottle in one hand and my ipod in the other. I was like "well my arms will balance each other out" lol

Attempted my first workout ten days post Covid. Oh boy...daddy Rona wrecked me more than I realized and it was probably short-sighted on my part that I was going to just jump back into the swing of things. My cardio is crap, my strength is crap.

Going to have to build myself back up slowly.

Rona gives you on hell of a slow recovery. Took me around 2 months to get back into the groove after heavy Rona(was sick for 2 weeks). It messes up your lungs really bad.
Weightlifting wasn't too bad to recover, but cardio and running in general was really rough(took like a year to fully recover). On the offnote, what are your go-to running shoes lads? My local running store https://rununited.com/ has a bunch of Hoka and Saucony, haven't really tried those ever(more of an Nike guy my entire life). Are those any decent?

This weekend we're getting like a polar vortex so it's another lost weekend.

All I've been doing is treadmill and an old stationary bike. Very frustrating.
I didn't hit my goal of cycling 5,000 km but I did set a personal best of 4,500 km. When I look at the above post and note that I did only about 200 km through the first three months of 2022 because of a harsh Canadian winter, I'll take it.

I really had to push it to reach 4,500 km. We had some good weather here in November which allowed me to hit it. It turned out I spent more time cycling than I did driving (23 hours to 21 hours) in November, according to Google timelines. That's a first.

The highlight of the year was biking across England and Wales, east to west, about 700 km over the course of eight days. I met a 78-year old on the trip who has done more than 15,000 km this year, according to Strava. We should all hope to be that healthy at that age.

I don't know if I'll ever hit 5,000 km due to working full time and Canadian weather but I'll keep trying.

What a year it’s been. I’m still soft as hell and my new job does make it slightly harder to work out and eat like I want.

But I’m still in the 170s and I will take that as a win.

Was definitely a year! Started at that 315, got down to 279, and right now sitting at around 297lbs.

Snacking and calorie counting are my big needs for 2023. Limit snacking after 8pm and need to count those calories again.

I average 18,000 steps a day and lose anywhere from 1,200 calories to 1,750 every single day.

We'll get there again some day! Turning 26 years old next month. Want to see the 220's again before 30, lol.

My biggest thing was using an app to track what I eat. I'm horrible about what is termed "fog eating". I can put away a family-size bag of chips in one sitting without even thinking about it. That and cutting out late-night snacking. No eating after 8 pm.

I used the Noom app for a while, and it totally changed the way I thought about food. Most restrictive diets didn't work for me because they would cut out all of these "bad" foods and it just wasn't sustainable. Noom uses a color guide system (green/yellow/red) to group foods and how many calories you should have in each group. And even though I struggled to stay within those limits, I would do a good job of staying under the overall limit.

Plus, I would walk every day. I would like to clean up my diet a little bit more and get back on a regular strength training routine, but I think I'll have to get off of third shift before I can do that completely.

The year started out strong, but a series of toe issues made working out a difficulty for much of 2022. I hit my highest weight of my life about back in October (particularly unfortunate as I had started the year out getting my weight down to as low as it had been in 5 years). Fortunately the toe problems have been better as of late, and so I was able to get back onto a workout program where I'm 8 weeks into it. It's been slow going as I have had to rebuild some stamina, especially in my legs, but I have been chipping away at the weight gains over these last 2 months. The holidays stunted that progress a bit, but I'm happy to be back in a routine.

Diet is the next area to target. I've been wanting to find a good app to help monitor what I take in. As my old boss likes to say, you can't improve what you don't measure.
