Closed threads

These forums are fantastic. I dig the no profanity rule and generally everyone gets along. Not only that, but the resepct level for one another is phenominal.

However, the rate that you guys close threads is completely our of control. Some things I can understand but it's out of control how the moderators just decide to close threads simply because of a heated discussion here and there.

Seriously. When a topic a locked, its usually for a good reason. Some posts start getting out of control, to the point where someone might say something which will cause major backlash. We try to discourage flamebait, knowingly or otherwise.

At times it is best just to get rid of the topic. Usually this allows cooler heads to prevail. Well sometimes anyways. heh

Also, there is nothing wrong with debating. But one person always starts the name calling and getting personal. So the topic gets locked.

I locked it EaglesFan, so I will come here and answer to why I did it. That topic became nothing more than ERMets and BKrich83 going back and forth back and forth and nothing new came up at all. It wasn't a debate it was a "am not, am too" contest. that is why I locked it.

Im not talking about a particular thread.

Fact is, I post on a lot of message boards, some for years now, and this place has more locked threads in a month than some sites in a year.

Quite frankly, it's ot of control, that's all I'm saying.

I think many of us remember what it used to be like on the IGN forum, that is why we are sometimes quick to lock. Maybe we are being too agressive, who knows?? But, I sure as heck don't want this place to become a repeat of that.

ACtually Squid I didn't have a single post in the last 35 posts in that thread. I had let it go long before you locked it..

So I don't know how it had boiled down to me and EWRMETS.

I think it keeps good control of the boards. Did you see how far off the Sega Sports boards went? Not even worth the visit.

Unless Steve tells us otherwise you will continue to see the forum moderated in the exact same fashion it has been over the last two years. If it was "out of control" I would like to think we would see a few more complaints on the issue.

Another thing you are not factoring in is we lock a TON of posts that belong in a sticky. Sticky threads are vital when big games are on, a big release is made, or we get near a release of certain games.

An example is after the OSU/Miami game. If we did not lock (and in some cases delete) the posts, then threads on other "college" related items "College basketball games, NCAA 2003, etc" would get knocked down to the previous pages.
