Give me a break.I also happen to work at a game company and I'll tell you that's Guru's behavior was very questionable. It's one thing to Lurk and read posts. It's another to bash every other competing game without any sort of ability to take criticism of your own game. You gotta take the good and bad from these sites and if you read over the couse of guru's post they paint a picture of complete deceit. Forum's probably represent about .00001% percent of sales and he knows it. He's just trying to be sneaky weasel and he got caught. Just to let everyone know if you already didn't there are definitely people on this site from all the major companies. Most of them probably do post about their game either defending it, or setting the record straight on something. Operation Sports should be happy that their sites gets this kind of attention. Hopefully most posters are a little less evil and malicious about it though than Guru.

Exactly. Guru never was able to just admit any fault with ASB. In his eyes, it has been the holy grail of game series' and would rather die before he admitted anything wasn't up to snuff. At least Fat Pitcher could just say "hey we wanted to do it but we couldn't this time" or just flat out say it was messed up.

While I never had any ill will towards you, Guru, you are just way too fanatical about defending ASB. You treat it like it is your damn kid. I mean, come on. You go on and on and on about the "karate kick" slides in High Heat, but when someone made mention of the "vaccum glove" effect in ASB you jumped all over them for it.

I actually enjoyed some of your posts, but far too often it seemed like your sole purpose here was to stir the pot, which I am sure it was. On one level, I will definitely miss reading your stuff, as it was sure to always provide a good chuckle. Not quite as high on the same unintentional comedy scale as Skilz' posts, but pretty close.

Call it what you want, but outside of sheer stupidity, there was no reason for you to be as biased against other games as much as you were. I am sure even your favorite Uncle Trip thinks that the Army Men games are pieces of dung behind closed doors.

No hard feelings, Guru and your "ghost", I just call it like I see it.

Let them come forward and admit who they are. I don't have a problem with it, but I would like to know if I'm listening to the opinion of a developer or just another gamer.

Nice defense except for the fact like I said above you gotta take as good as you get. I've posted on this site before about my game. I always make it a point to criticize my game as much as the competition. Check out Guru's posts and it's a lot of hype for his own product or attacking other's game. You can make the argument all you want about it's just his opinion. I read your posts and it's one thing to be a fanboy in the general public. It's another thing to be engaged in an active campagin of deceit and lies. If you want to market your game so bad then join the Acclaim's marketing department. Next time you rear head in the baseball forums which I'm sure you will once you switch to your home IP or another one, just play it straight this time and cut out the crap!

You know what, it really doesn't matter to me if a developer wants to post here and remain anonymus. I agree with whoever said someone's job doesn't matter here, to an extent. The caveat is that said person not be a damn slave for their game and be blind to any other product. If Guru hadn't been such a zealot, it wouldn't have made much of a difference if he worked for Acclaim, 3DO or the gas station down the street. It is just after we all found out his place of employment, it was easy to tell what his motivation was.

I don't care who it is posting, but an ability to be somewhat objective would go a long ways. It looks like Guru has passed the "like your game so much you want to have intercourse with it" torch to ViperVisor. All I can say about that is, at least it is a different game.

Hey BDoughty, sorry for opening the can of worms, but I was curious as to what was going on.

Whew! Someone's got an overinflated sense of how importantt OS forums are in ushering consumers to the check-out aisle! Gee, maybe he 'deceived' 4 people through his malicious marketing ploy! That would be time well-spent on marketing if that were his intent! Especially since, because so mnay find his support of ASB abrasive, he'd probably function to dissuade people from buying 'what that idiot Guru likes'! Unless of course the vast majority of his pro-Acclaim posts included factual information about what is in the game. It's not like he was misrepresentin himself in order to tell lies meant to make readers want ASB. He wasnt makin claims about the game that arent true. His fanboy attitude toward ASB was simply supprted by TRUE info about the game, accompanied often by OPINIONS about the features of other companies' games. You make it sound as if he violated some sacred unwritten oath among gaming programmers.

Just to let you guys know developers generally can't identify themselves to you guys. What would end up happening is that he would end up deluged with hundreds of posts about why is X bug in this game and why is this and why is that and a developer really just doesn't have time to deal with being an answering machine for this kind of stuff. (I know there's some guy called Fatpitcher who seems to do this but he's asking for trouble in my opinion. If he has the time though that's his business) It's been tried before and it doesn't work. Companies do read popular forums though and along with forums, tester feedback, and developers own ideas they make the next game. Developers do take it upon themselves sometimes to go out and answer a question or correct some inaccurate notion that might be floating around the forums. It's really a question of degree though IMHO. It's one thing to give an opinion. It's just silly though to pull some of the crap Guru did.

Ok, but he never just gave his opinion on another game and let it go. He would continue to bash and pick apart any tiny flaw in any game that wasn't ASB ad nauseum. He is just as entitled to an opinion as anyone else, but then just state it and shut up about it. Going from thread to thread and attacking people who had their own opinion about ASB or another game just got really stale.

I don't know about you people, but I really like this place because it isn't like IGN's boards or just about anywhere else. It is rare on the internet to be able to have something resembling a discussion. Sure, there is the occasional poster here who will throw a "Madden sux!" or "High Heat Ownz Jooo" out there, but it is held to a minimum.

The bottom line, yet again, is that Guru's fanaticism is way too much. The fact that he got caught as an Acclaim employee only drew attention to himself and brought his motivation into question.
