    New Thread Limitation

Is there any way we can look into making new users have to wait for the right to start new threads? Or have the option taken away if they abuse it.

So many threads in the popular sports games are being created about the same thing, or just nonsense. It'd be nice to be able to clean up the boards a little. Make it easier and more pleasant to read through.

    Thanks,
    Chris

It would be great. I don't know if there's any way except to put a "post threshold" where you can create threads. If that's the only way, then we'll see a whole helluva lot of spamming till they get to that certain post level.

Maybe someone else can chime in on it.

Set a post threshold and have the people locked out from starting new threads have to pm a mod with the thread title and what's in it and the mod posts it.

You're really trying to work us, aren't you? I think that every new user should be somehow sent a PM directing them to the TOS thread. Also if they could be made to agree to the terms before they are given access they would have a better understanding of how we do things here, as opposed to some of the seedier sites. Then, if they choose to be knotheads, they can't cry about the consequences. But I don't think that the site has been too messed up by all of the "Ian seekers" and now the NBA2k noobs. The "facist" (read that somewhere, you didn't say it) mods have been up to policing the joint and making it fairly safe.
        Note to Tiburon Marketing:

A great product sells itself, no "back of the box" features required! (See Fifa...)

Well you'd just be exchanging the time that you use locking threads with time spent mking them. It would be slightly more time spent starting though. Not trying to work you guys too much but just puting a practical idea out there.

Good point. But then we'll seem even more "Big Brother" than we're already accused of being. I actually like that we have a lot of guys who'll hit the report post buttons. It makes our job so much easier. At the end of the day, you guys police the forums far better than we ever could. Which really is really what it's all about. These are your forums, not the "green" guys. I just hope that we have things settle down fairly quickly. And I hope that once the new guys settle into a routine this place will be better than ever. I have never reported a post, don't even know how to do it.

I say we just give out infractions for making stupid threads.

See the little upside down yield sign with the ! on it? That'll take you to the "report post" message box. Then you send it and we get notified of the offending post/thread. It really does help us do our thing. But I try to watch threads as I'm doing my thing and keep it clean.

I say we don't give out infractions for making fun of people who start stupid threads and then the problem will take care of itself.

I like this idea. Let me rip on some idiot making a thread about how he needs to talk to Ian. It'd discourage them and be a good time for me.

As much fun as that would be, the problem is that's how even more threads open up about how the mods are power hungry and such when the threads do get closed.

A new thread limitation has a chance of scaring away new posters, but it would probably be beneficial in the long run. If you're here at this site for a reason, you won't mind having your voice being heard in others' topics.

If that was allowed, I'd come back on as a mod in a heartbeat!

While I feel the mods pain, I don't think a limitation would be a good idea. I can't think of many big communities that don't let you post like that. It would drastically affect the forum userbase of OS over time and eventually stunt its growth. Just IMO.
