Tips on the New Forum

Just wanted to drop a quick tip here—and feel free to add your own if you’ve got any!

Embedding YouTube videos used to be a bit tricky on the old forums, but it’s way easier now. Here’s how to do it:

See the "Insert Video" button (it’s to the left of the smiley face)? Click that. A box will pop up—just paste your YouTube URL in there and hit OK. Here’s a quick test example and you can try it yourself in this thread:

For Twitter (or X), it works a little differently. You’ll need to copy just the string of numbers at the end of the post URL. Like this one:

https://x.com/EAMaddenNFL/status/1915420727181770958

Those numbers are: 1915420727181770958

Now, click the little Twitter/X icon (it's just to the left of the main X button in that same toolbar), and drop those digits between the tweet tags like so:

Haha it's because Steve kept the URL extended for the whole Twitter post and it for some reason bleeds even to the buttons below the post. It only shows this way when logged in as well (may be a bug with signatures too, we'll look into it).

Okay to put a bow on this, it's something strange with signatures. If you have them turned off (which they are by default in this new setup, which we're looking into) it seems to bleed into the bottom of the post. So when logged out or when you have signatures turned on it works fine. But if you have signatures turned off while logged in, this is where the issue arises.

If you don't know how to turn signatures on, just go to your profile page, then click Edit Settings on left side ---> Click on the Account tab ----> FInd this area and check the box for signatures:

Is OS Real Time still a thing? I know my bookmark doesn't work anymore for it. Was my favorite way to view new posts.

I tried changing my profile picture with the instructions from the help section but it seems to be outdated possibly as when I hover my cursor over the default avatar nothing happens.

If you click on your name you should be here:

Hmmm, for whatever reason that edit avatar never appears after going to my profile. Bummer, I feel like such a bot with the greyed out picture lol

When linking to an image from a site like imgur, make sure to uncheck "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" - it severely downscales your image and makes it look blurry.

So what do we do about new posts not showing up?

It's been a problem since the new site launched, but just today with the CFB stuff coming out, the thread will say "Latest post by _____ at (time)" and when I click both the newest post button and last post button, it's always an old post and the new ones don't exist. Then I'll click on the "Latest Activity" tab and it still shows me old posts. Is there any way to look at new posts on a consistent basis?

It's nobody's fault, but this update has been terrible IMHO. It's been over a month since the two-week timeframe that the posts before April 8 were supposed to be fixed. Still not there.

We are looking into the "Latest post by stuff". It's very annoying. As for the April 8 posts, those were migrated last week. If you are seeing missed posts, please link me and I'll have the engineer look into it.
