Suggestions regarding comment format, and notifications

Not sure if it's doable at all but I would suggest disabling the replies to comments that appear directly under them, and return to traditional forum format where you just quote someone to reply to his post and then your post is the most recent in the thread. If someone replies under my post and the thread has moved to the next page or even a couple pages ahead, I'm never going to see it. There's also no way to quote someone that way and it makes the thread more convoluted, especially if several people are involved in the same discussion. This new format is reddit-esque, and there is a reason I prefer to post on forums rather than reddit and format is one of them.

That brings me to my second point. Would there be a way to implement notifications for when people reply to a user's posts? Both people who quote posts in their own comment in a thread, and for people who reply under a comment (if that feature in fact has to stay). I get notifications for people liking my posts but not for replies or quotes. I've seen this in action on another vBulletin forum I was on last year, but not sure the coding involved to get it to work.

I'm neutral on this. Comments are OK. But I think that noarmsduck is bringing up a real problem: it's easy to miss comments.

So you could take his solution. Alternatively, you could provide notifications when someone comments on your thread or on your post.

Notifications for subscriptions also aren't working great, so maybe it's fixing both things at once.

Interestingly enough, I got a notification for this post. Maybe because I started the thread? But I don't get notifications when people quote me in other people's threads.

Sounds like this is something that'll be worked on, but I agree with how the comments are so easy to get missed. Not just from you missing someone commenting on your own post, but you won't see someone comment on someone else's post unless you really look at every post AND see the comment number has changed (from 0 to 1, 1 to 2 etc.) Seeing notifications in app like you used to have on Tapatalk, and how places like Reddit and others have is ideal.

Hey Blzer can you subscribe to this thread and see if you receive notifications? I did receive them.

I'm already subscribed. Once I post in a thread it auto-subscribes me. I got your notification, but maybe because you @ me.

Blzer Is that a setting somewhere? Maybe if I turn on the auto subscribe thing it would be better. On the flip side this could lead to a ton of notifications leading up to big game releases and right after, as some threads get really active at those times.

I don't know whether or not it's a setting. I do know it's been like that for me even on the old boards, though.
