Over the last several months the site seems to be getting progressively slower to me. I've just put up with it until now, but it's reaching the point of almost being unuseable. Clicking on a forum link or even just trying to change to the site home page is taking on the order of 30-45 seconds on AVERAGE.

I've really enjoyed OS in the past and can see from some of the other topics posted that the site has grown in traffic. But I also suspect a couple other culprits are seriously compromising the site's performance.

1. The flash ads are killers. I've turned them off with an IE add-on since they pegged my CPU at 100% continuously while on OS. I don't mind seeing ads, but when they make the site (and worse yet my entire PC) unusable, they have to go.

2. "Extras" like the instant messanger type thingy at the bottom (what is that thing? I've never used it nor ever intend to) are also probably causing a problem. Sometimes when an OS page or link is loading I'll notice that most of the content is there, but the damn IM thing at the bottom appears to be doing something and takes a long time to resolve. It would be nice if we could opt for a version of the site that doesn't have it... is that even possible?

Anyway, I'm a bit old school in that I just want to be able to access and participate in the forums for the content. I could care less about HTML support, emoticons, flash, IM, et cetera. It doesn't bother me that the features are there... except when they may interfere with basic functionality.

One last point, I regularly visit literally dozens of forums, blogs, and other pages on a regular basis and AM NOT seeing a slowdown at any of those other sites. I mention that so that someone won't suggest that maybe my PC itself is just slowing down due to a virus or other culprit.

Hopefully these performance issues can be resolved as I would really miss being able to continue participation here at OS.

User CP, Edit Options, Disable OS Instant Messenger Bar.

Disabling the IM option made an immediate improvement in performance for me. Tyvm.

Is anyone else getting invites to the Facebook (via a new tab) every time they log into the site. I have been getting this every time I log-in. I'm also getting url's for different banners the site is using. Like an IKEA URL that shows a blank page

I'm getting random new tabs for websites, most of them are blank.

Anyone else having problems the last few days? It's getting to be back to how it used to be for me, OS just won't load at all for a few minutes.
