Non-Square Avatars

I see some people have avatars that aren't the same height and width. Everytime I've linked to a graphic that was a rectangle, it showed up distorted as a square.

Is there a special way to keep original proportions?

I don't know if there's a UBB way, but I guess you could do some editing in photoshop or whatnot, create a transparent square the size of an avatar, and then put the triangle image on that. Since the new image is technically square it shouldn't distort the triangle layer.

I have no clue how to actually do that in photoshop or anything though. Don't do much picture editing.

Yeah that would be simple to do. Do you think that's what those people are doing... because when I looked at the image properties they were coming straight from places like NBA.com and whatnot.

Like yours Bdunn, it's 100 x 72.

Must work if its largest dimension is 100 or less.
