    RIP Meebo?

So it appears that Meebo's disappearance was not part of an April Fools' joke...

The writing was on the wall after http://www.operationsports.com/forum...-os-meebo.html, but I'm still gonna hate to see it go. It was great for contacting people in online leagues and just generally conversing with OS friends.

Was there any other reason for it getting the heave-ho other than underuse? Maybe it was part of the cause of the site slowdowns? Any insight on this would be appreciated.

As far as I know the decision has been made to scrap meebo. It really isn't a joke... it slowed down the site for a lot of users. I miss it though. Maybe there's some better IM client we could integrate. I'd like that.

Yeah, hated seeing it go. I wonder how many people even knew what meebo was but actually used it as we had more then a few members in our league that used it but when someone mentioned it by name they didnt know what that was.

I didn't even notice it was gone.. For the bulk of OS users, including myself, it was just a random on-screen obstruction so it really needed to go..

Yes, unfortunately it had to go. Too many users experienced slowdown on the site, with it on. After removing it, the site has been much faster.

We have also gone with a new ad rep and they have exclusive rights for our ad space. They didn't want Meebo, since it held its own ads. Meebo offered to make it so we could use their Meebo toolbar with our new ad rep for a fee, but we had to decline.

Sorry for the bad news, for the ones that used it. But those were the 2 major factors, so it had to be removed.

Are you guys thinking of adding any other type type of of Chat feature? Sorry to bother you with this, I know as a Roster editor it made it SO much easier than PMing, as far as communicating back and forth while editing. I understand why it was removed, just wondering if there was any plan to replace it with something else.

Thanks for the upfront answer Steve. Hard to argue with axing it if it was causing the site to slow down.

                  Re: RIP Meebo?

Meebo was very useful for contacting fellow OS members without having to PM every single time. I'm actually surprised many people didn't even know what it was. I don't think I've experienced any slowdown because of the app.

                    Re: RIP Meebo?

I knew what it was, I just never had a use for it. I didn't know one could remove it from the site via options. I suppose now that does not matter.
