    Starting 5 Article (2-17-04)

Clay and Shawn chime in with their weekly Starting 5 article.

"Alex Rodriguez is now a member of the New York Yankees. The sport’s best player is now in the world’s #1 market. Is this good for baseball or another sign that George Steinbrenner is the devil?"

Damn Clay, the Yankees pitching might be a question mark, but they aren't the Texas Rangers. Mussina is one of the best in the game, Brown is still very effective when healthy, Contreras showed a lot of potential last year, Vazquez is a very good pitcher, and if Lieber returns to old form it's a very good rotation. They'll probably going to have some problems and need to make some changes, but I really doubt they are going to give up 12 runs a game.

Don't hate him, thank him!!! Thank him for fielding the best baseball team in the league. Thank him for writing that check for 60 mill. for the league. Thank him for bringing his team to your ball park to a sell out crowd ( make money what a novel idea!!!). Don't hate him because he played by the rules major leaugue baseball created. JUST THANK HIM!!

In a New york culture you want to look, sound, and be the best you can be!! Steinbrenner wants this same thing for his baseball team. He has the resources, let him do it!!! You ask a player to go out and do their best on the field, why can't an owner do the same? Don't talk to me about unfair advantages either, the baseball diamond is full of unfair advantages every day. Baseball is a business, there are people that are good at it and people who are not!! Same with the players!!!

There are plenty of owners that have the money to do the same things that New York has done but they choose not to!!! So don't complain or cry its not fair, instead go back to your teams owner and ask him to be the best he can be!!!

Listen, they are just one team in a very large leauge!! They can't win every division baseball has to offer, and it is not certain that they will even win the world series!! The last two seasons have proven that!!! So don't blame George for trying to be the best, blame the people who sit back and mock and don't make the effort!! Don't hate him thank him!!!

                Great article as usual!
I agree with Clay and Shawn about the NBA All Star Game. Too many sponsors, not enough talent.

Jacksonville Jaguars - Seattle Seahawks - Seattle Mariners - Jacksonville Sharks - Oklahoma City Thunder - Florida Gators

Its not that other teams say no we wont spend the money they just dont have it to begin with. Like you said baseball is a business and no stable business can lose money year after year. Most teams would if they spent like George S. He has more income than some divisions combined. Its fair by the rules baseball has set, but I dont respect a sport where teams have an unfair advantage money wise before a game has even been played. You can count hockey in there to. Its one thing to build a great team but how hard is it when you can out bid everyone else? The NFL is a prime example of a level playing field. The only way you cant field a team as equal to your opponents is if your bad at managing your money.

                              A dedicated yankee fan!!!

I thank him for giving me a team to TRULY hate. If it wasn't for the Yankees, baseball would be boring.
