Threads getting locked

I had started a thread on the ESPN football forum, asking ESPN fans to convince me, a Madden "lifer", of some features or aspects that make it better than Madden, since I've been considering making the "switch" to ESPN lately. All I got was a few people telling me it's $20 so I might as well try it, and then an admin came and locked it. Why lock it? I didn't even get the chance to hear some specific features of gameplay or anything.

Is it a situation where threads may have gotten out of hand in the past, and maybe some bad language started showing up, and now there's sort of an over-correction going on?

I mean, I'm a participant in the arena of ideas, and I thought that was what this forum was for. There was no foul language or arguing going on at all in the thread I started. Anyone understand where I'm coming from?

Ok, I see where you're coming from... I'm just new here, so I wasn't aware of any past fights between Madden and ESPN fans. I've read up on the Football Friday writeups, and they're helpful, but you know how it is, sometimes gamers themselves tell the whole tale. Anyways, sorry for almost starting a war over there!

honestly, you should really rent ESPN, or pick it up, since it's 20 bucks. Everyone has different tastes in football games, so I couldn't persuade you at all, I happen to like both ESPN and Madden, they both do different things right.

In general though, these topics turn into flame wars where people can't maturely talk about pros and cons of a game. it's almost like they have the 'I'm getting this game, so I have to have everyone else like it to validate my decision'

Also, at least rent ESPN. Its a diffrent game from Madden and might take more then a few games to enjoy it. I think you will be happy, if you have twenty to spend, get it.
