Purple names mean that poster has talked to Steve and is associated with a game company in some way. If I remember right Chris_989Sports answered a lot of questions about MLB 2005

They're a VIP, usually in the game industry. Chris, as his name indicates, works for 989 Sports.

Before VIP Video Game Developers/etc came, it used to be the mark of TMSkilz (now that's gone and over with). I like the idea... but couldn't they have another color?

It was purple on mine. I think the pink came into play when they changed the forums for the first time.
