    What's the story behind OS?

Steve why did you decide to create OS in 2002?

Also how did the mods get selected? Did they all know each other before OS was even created?

    I've always been curious.

There needs to be a VH1 Behind the Music type special for OS (although without the tragedies).

I don't know the whole story behind os but steve bought it from another guy. He didn't create it.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Re: What's the story behind OS?

OS has been around longer since 02 and like Jmood said, Steve bought it from someone else.

Maybe someone creative could do a E! Hollywood story on OS and say how the mods became mods and how the site started little and has grown into the best sportsgaming site on the internet.

2002 is just when the current forum setup was started, OS has been around a lot longer than that. I've heard the story in various threads, but I don't remember exactly (nor was I very active for the longest time)

So when I did the OS staff interview where all the posters could ask them any questions they wanted noone seemed to care enough to ask these questions..

Maybe Steve will let me do the Owner and Mods interview again...

                Whadduya say?

Re: What's the story behind OS?

The site was created by Craig Tompkins back in March of 1998. He hired me in the summer of 2000, to help in the news department. He sold the site to Jeff Downey and I stuck around to do the news for him. Jeff had some family and health issues and sold the site to me early 2001.

When I was a kid, I searched high and low for any sports gaming magazines or tv shows. I was into it big time. I played Real Sports Football for the Atari 2600 all day and night, trying to keep stats and everything. I wanted to see what new games were on the horizon, but never could find any information anywhere. When I found Operation Sports, I was in heaven and when I had the opportunity to buy if from Jeff, I jumped on it.

I just love to keep the readers informed. Everyone comes to the site looking for the newest sports gaming updates and I try my best to give them that. I love to hear the comments from our readers, via email or our Forums. In the end, it's all about the love for sports gaming.

The staff helps a lot w/ the site as well. Some w/ news, reviews, site admin and the Forums. As for hiring mods, basically I just look for people that post a lot and more importantly, knowledgable of sports and sports gaming. We definitely look for the level headed guy, not someone that is recognized as a fanboy.

There are a lot of people that don't even know we have a Main Site and just as many that don't know this Forum exists. I remember the old days when it was me and 2 other people posting in our Forums, my how times have changed.

                    Hope that helps.
