Why don't we have an article discussion thread...?

Everytime we have an article on the front page, why not have a thread dedicated to it?

We might be implementing a "Comment" system down the road. We'll see how things go. It could be implemented w/ the Forums, but Eddie and mgo would be the guys that know.

Good to hear. (err... read.) I think it would be interesting to read some feedback on Fossen's article. As he makes some points I've been bringing up in the forums, but it seems like the majority here disagrees with that POV...

Yeah i know. We've been talking about upgrading the main site for ages. Me and mgo are still in the process of porting the asp stuff over to .NET to at least stay on pace with the technology curve.

As i've said before, its a huge undertaking, and with BDunn gone it makes it even harder. Add to the fact me and mgo have been swamped with real work, then this doesnt leave much time for R&D for OS, only maintenance.


If any coders wanna interview to help us redo the main site, with functionality that will allow us to make the main site and forums work together to allow users signed on to the forums also to have an identity on the main site, dont be shy to send me a pm or email.


I would love nothing more than to work full time on OS. Unfortunately, i gotta feed the family.

Well, how is the site coded? I'm very familiar with Dreamweaver...

I have some great ideas for a site in general, but I just can't take the task on myself...

I think it would be a great addition for sports gamers too...

exactly...I'm working on stuff, just kinda tough at night after a long day of work dealing with clients who are going to give my co-worker and I a heart attack one of these days...everything's 'priority' when they want it to be.

I don't know enough about the forum stuff, but it'd be interesting to link the main site to the forums, but otherwise the comments section would be separate...I start to leave my knowledge area, what I've been working on at work has been pretty narrow, tons of the same type of crap for one huge client, so not as much innovation right now.

Site is all old asp. We are porting to .net

its not just the look and presentation, its also all the data and the database schemas, structures, and normalization of tables.

The most dificult part is ripping out the current site and plugging in a new one. That takes too much time, so we divide and conquer; but this means we are stuck with the same layout, only making changes that wont affect other parts of the site. SO we couldnt just "plug" a comments section in, cause we need to make sure it doesnt turn into a free-for-all, so we want registered users from the forum to be able to go to the main site with their identity. Just try to picture this in your head, and it gets messier.

Can it be done? of course it can. But, volunteer work this is not. We do what we can. 2 guys working on this on a regular 40 hour schedule can wrap up something like this in 2 or 3 months. But i sure as hell cant be coding on OS for 40 hours and then another 50 or so to get paid by my job, so it gets done..just mUCHHHHHHHH slower

Are you planning on re-doing the main site? Personally, (and not to knock anyone's work) I think the main page could use a major facelift.

I don't even read the front page, I go straight to the forums... I think that says something...
