I'd say jump in completely, but then again I've forgotten how frustrated I was trying to adapt.

I'd say try manual shooting out in a practice match against no defenders, and where you have the minimum number of offensive players (I think it's three).

I'm scared to try this. But I guess it makes sense as a new player to avoid forming bad habits?

Found masterbucks. I like him. I watched him start a manager mode. Should help me when I do that. Only thing that comes up for the other guy is Sims videos. Lol. And I'm glad Masterbucks is not American. If it's football I want to hear someone who lives for it. Just my preference.

I will pull up some Ozil gameplay. Thanks for the name drop. I love to play point guard in basketball so it seems I made the best choice for my natural play style.

I've got the basic controls down. A little afraid to tackle dribbling. What moves do you think are rather basic yet effective, or should be a part of an average players arsenal.

Body Feint, Body Feint, Body Feint.

I've answered the question about skill moves the same way a few times, but the necessity of this move cannot be overstated. It's remarkably effective and simple: flick the right stick one direction, move the left stick the opposite direction. It's great when you're on the wing and you need to either beat a defender inside, setup a cross, or just create a little space for yourself. It's the one move that any level player can do and it's guaranteed to improve your game.

          This!

Body feints, step-overs and ball rolls are simple yet very effective if timed correctly. The only advanced skill move I use on a somewhat regular basis is the heel chop.
Looking at skills tutorials can be a bit overwhelming, but just focus on the easy ones.

Aside from the Body Feint, the only other move I use is the Roulette for face-up situations. Between that and the Body Feint I have defenders directly in front of me or to either side of me locked up. Very few things are more satisfying than beating two defenders, one in front, the other behind, with one of the simplest moves in the game.

Re: New to FIFA, new to Football/soccer. What should I know?

I just picked up fifa yesterday and while I have played soccer games before im still lost when it comes to some things.

              1. When it comes to subs during a game, how do I know when is the right time to sub another player in and when is the best time to do it.

              2. Is the Euro League, and Champions Cup the same thing as the EUFA European championship and the EUFA Champions League? If so what is the difference between the two tourneys and how do I get into them if I start with Bristol City of Football League 1.

              3. What is the best stadium to play in. One that looks the best with the loudest fans.

              4. Can you play with two ppl on the same console against someone online. Me and my friend want to play on the same team but against another person. I think this was possible last year.

I just want to add this game is so fun. My friend who knows absolutely nothing about soccer is having so much fun playing fifa. He couldn't even tell you who messi or ronaldo was before he started playing. He also claims that doing some of the skill drills like the dribbling through dummys moving left to right without hitting them will make him better at running through the holes when playing madden lol.

                1. Mostly when a player starts to tire out or if you feel a player is playing poorly and you want to replace them. But remember you only get 3 subs

                2. Yes they are the same as the real life tourneys other than the name. To qualify as that team for champions cup you will need to promote them to the top league and finish top 4. For Europa league you will need to either promote them and finsish 5th or from any English win the capitol one cup or fa cup.

                3. That is more of visual preference.

Guys thanks so much for the comments and tips! I love this community. I have gravitated towards Everton after watching some BPL. I'm having a lot of fun with My Career/GM mode. It took a long time to figure out the transfer network but I think I've got it nailed down.

I don't get enough shot on goal against human opponents, what should I try?

What level of competition are you looking for? What kind of margin for error?

For instance, the top flight leagues in the world are probably the Premier League, the Bundesliga, Series A, and the Liga BBVA. With France's Ligue 1 behind those. If you select any team from those leagues to start a CM as a manager with no reputation, you probably won't have much rope. Pick Man City right off the bat, and lose a couple games you'll probably be sacked

I've had fun playing in the lower leagues of England, the lesser squads (not Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV, Twente) of the Eredivisie in Holland is a good one, and I've found the style of play in Brazil and Mexico a lot of fun. Another favorite of mine to start out in is the Bundesliga 2.

So does the game offer a League where I can use LA Galaxy?? MLS?? This is gonna be a first for me so don't laugh at my questions. Lol

Yeah, MLS in there, and you can manage the Galaxy.

If you choose the MLS, I'll warn that you don't start in a transfer window like other leagues since the MLS starts in March/April (transfer windows are global and happen in January and again from July to the end of August). You'll have to wait until July for the first transfer window to open. So if your squad has some issues right off the bat, you'll have to tough it out until the summer.

You can actually use the galaxy in any league. Before you start a cm at the pick team screen you can swap the galaxy for any team in any league and play in that league

I actually started with the Galaxy. In the MLS and it was a good place to learn. Good team at that level with an aging but talented scorer in Landon Donovan. I played two seasons with them, and kept checking for job openings and eventually left for a job in Spain.

MLS is a great place to learn the basics and if you screw up your transfers then it's not a big deal because you can still compete
