Re: How is your FIFA 14 NG Manager Mode going?
I have finally gotten around to doing an update for this thread.
I had decided to do a German CM as I have never done one. I wanted to start in the Bundesliga 2. My choice was to start with FC Koln, they had a good budget and a good starting team.
Season 1
Disabled first transfer window(unusual for me) as the team was good enough to finish near the top already and had a pretty good formation.
In January I signed quite a few players to pre-contracts instead of buying players. 23YO RB Dennis Diekmeier(came in at 75) from Hamburger SV, 23YO LB Patrick Van Aanholt(came in at 72) from Chelsea, and 25 YO LM Ibrahima Traore(came in at 76) from VFB Stuttgart.
Finished the season at the top to gain promotion.
In the summer I wanted to improve the squad and got a budget of 11M, ended up selling a few older players to bring the total up to 15M. I got a transfer offer for my best player(22YO 77OVR ST Anthony Ujah) for 15M from PSG, I was going to reject it but thought I'd ask for 30M just for kicks and they accepted!!!! After the Board took their cut it added 25M to my budget and I went to work.
Transfers in - Lukaku(78OVR) from chelsea for 8M(shocked), Steven de Vrij(79OVR) from Feyenoord for 2M(shocked again), Nicola Leali from Juventus for 4.2M and Jurgen Locadia(75OVR) from PSV for 12M. Lukaku and de Vrij had less than a year left on their deals.
Second season goal was to not get relagated.
In January I signed another pre-contract with 23YO 78OVR RM Jonathan Schmid from SC Freiburg.
Finished 11th in the table which I was pretty happy with.
I needed another good CB to pair with de Vrij for season 3 so I got Toby Alderweirelder from Atletigo Madrid(starts at Ajax) for 8Mwhich really helped me in defence. To fill my need in midfield I brought in Paul Pogba from Juventus for 15M.
Goal for year 3 was to qualify for Europa League.
I was able to SQUEEK out the 4th Champions league spot(whew).
I'm now in September of year 4 and this past summer has been crazy! Sold Lucadia(now 82OVR) to Chelsea for 70MIL! and de Vrij(now 81OVR) to Barca for 40MIL! Also sold Traore for 8M to Roma.
I took that money and turned it into LM Eden Hazard from Chelsea for 45M. Brought Mesut Ozil home to Germany for 50M. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal for 10M. And lastly 2 CBs to replace de Vrij though I don't remember they're names but they are both young and 77 rated.
This year with the team I have I want to really try to go for the league title(Bayern has won every year thus far)
If anyone is interested major cup winners -
Champions League - Barca(14), Bayern(15), and Juventus(16)
Europa League - Valencia(14), Inter(15), Lazio(16)
World Cup - Germany(14)
South America Cup - Uruguay(15)
European Championship - Greece(16)
I took over as manager for greece in 2015.Comment

I just think maybe I don't know enough about soccer and it's intricacies--for one I don't know the advantages/disadvantages of formations--to put my stamp on the team with first years transfers and general upheaval. I'm playing with Manchester City, if that explains my indecisiveness.

Re: How is your FIFA 14 NG Manager Mode going?
Ideally you want a formation that gets the best players in your squad out on the pitch. For City, you'd want an attacking formation (more players near the opponents goal than your goal) because City has great attacking players, but also a strong defense so you don't have to leave a lot of players back.
Here's an example squad I just made for City, using the 4-4-2 Diamond Wide (4-1-2-1-2). I don't use Jovetic, but I think he'd make a great winger with his great all-around attacking stats. Man City has a great defense so you can get away with just 1 CDM in Yaya.
I would go ahead and sign a world-class CB to play next to Kompany, such as Thiago Silva, Mats Hummels, or Sergio Ramos.

Hey guys thank you. I'm going to restart today, and let you know how I fair. How many prospects should I try to bring on--and maybe send down for loan or whatever? (And it's funny. I was thinking about a CB in general because I know defense wins games! Any game. Haha)

Re: How is your FIFA 14 NG Manager Mode going?
You can go to the squad report screen and see your players on loan and you can see their progression attribute-wise. Sadly, there is no way to track their stats unless you loaned them to a team in the same league. If you loaned them to a lower league team in the same country, it shows their domestic cup stats.Comment

Re: How is your FIFA 14 NG Manager Mode going?
Have to share my World Cup Semi-Final story. I am managing Wales internationally and make it to the Semi's; beating Germany and Argentina along the way(yeah I probably need some tunes but getting some really tight/fun matches). Round of 8 vs Argentina was a last second goal in extra time.
Semis vs. Italy. 2 - 2 at the end of regulation. Each of us had several close calls in extra time and we go to PKs. Go all of the way through the starting 11 back and forth because I suck at shooting and tending PKs; including a must make by my Goalie to keep it going. My son is sitting watching and we are both going nuts on each shot. My star striker and Captain comes back up and nails the winner. Advance to the World Cup Finals 11-10 on PKs!
Creamed England in the Final for a kind of bland victory celebration, but man that World Cup semi will be one of my top sports video game moments for a long time to come.Comment
