Question Regarding Youth Players/Academy

I have a question regarding the youth academy and players: after scouting youth players and choosing to sign them to my youth academy; can they be signed away by another team at this point? can I only secure the player by signing him out of the academy and to my team? because i have a couple players who are mid 80s-90s potential and I don't want to lose those guys

You can lose them, but you will get a warning (email) first.
It will say something like; the player feels he's ready to be called up and if he's not he will look to go elsewhere.

But they won't get signed away out of the blue. If they are in your academy they are yours, but don't forget to regularly check your emails.

I think this normally happens when they turn 17, or around that time. I think that has been the case for me at least.

No other team can sign the player. But they may want to leave. You'll get an email saying so, and then you just go sign the player. But actual teams trying to sign that player, will not happen. That only happens when you're still scouting the players.
