Can you play the World Cup in one of the Career Modes?

Okay so I'm struck with World Cup Fever, bummer is they didn't put out a World Cup version of the game for Next Gen, and from what I have heard the World Cup Update only added in the kits, rosters, ball, and finals stadium that can be used in Friendlies (with really the only game mode getting meaningful content being FUT - and I get enough Ultimate team with Madden).

I also know that tournaments aren't in the Next Gen version so I can't even simulate aspects of the World Cup (in or out of World Cup mode - I would have gladly paid money for an Add-On that gave this ability).

My question is can you at least get to the World Cup in one of the Career Modes (i.e. Player/Manager mode). As much as I love the game of soccer, I've never really gotten to into FIFA, but I remember being able to play on the National team being a part of FIFA 09 (the deepest I have gone into a career mode on last-gen). And while I'd prefer to be able to simply play a world cup tournament, I think I could justify slapping down the money to get FIFA 14 if I could at least get some experience in repping the USA.

I think I may just dust off my 360 and play World Cup 2010 but would much rather experience it on my PS4. I'm even considering grabbing World Cup 2014 for PS3 (currently on sale on PSN), but my Hard Drive is pretty much full, and I'm not fond of the PS3 controller (the analog sticks are terrible for a FIFA game).

Yes it is in career mode for both player and manager but you have to manage a club as well. You can do the player thing but you have to rely on the national team calling you up. All in all the national team aspect is cool but very lacking. Many of the world cup teams(Costa Rica, Nigeria, Japan to name a few) are not in the base game.

It's in June.. I just made it to the round of 16 with the US in the World Cup; I was up 2-0 on Italy with 5 minutes left, so they took me out (I went ahead and simmed to the end of the match, thinking I didn't have anything to worry about) and when I checked the table I had lost 3-2.... head scratching and frustrating.

Rather than start my own thread, I'll ask here:

In my manager career (I manage Brescia), I got an offer to manage Peru, and took the offer. I was looking forward to the World Cup part of it, but it's only the South American Cup(?)

Is this different than the world cup, but with the same set up (Tables; top 2 teams advance?) I noticed there were only 3 groups (A,B,C) aren't there more in the world cup?

And in the game does the world cup only come every 4 years?

South American Cup is basically COMMEBOL, plus USA, Mexico, etc, since there's not enough CONCACAF teams in the game. South American Cup is a separate cup from the World Cup.

First off, you have to be selected to the national team. You are tried out for it throughout your club's season. This doesn't mean you've made it. The final team is selected just before the World Cup in June. I believe it begins in the 23rd in the game.

In FIFA 2014 road to World Cup mode, can you play every game? It seems like the game is just simming everyone of my games....it's driving me nuts!

I did mine as a player. I've never done it as a manager. I imagine it's similar; that you have to be named the manager of a team to compete. Not sure about that one.

You begin a career managing whoever and you'll get offers from countries to manage their national team. You generally have to be doing well in a above average to very good league I think.

Just curious since Ive never actually paid attention but in my Napoli manager mode Im also the US head coach. I've played a couple international friendlies and such. Do the players get better as you go along through the International side of things ie friendlies, CONCACAF tourney, World Cup qualifying etc.? I'm hoping my US team gets better before I actually get into the Qualifying matches and such.
