    Career mod subbing tips?

I specify career mode because I'm not talking about chemistry. I've been a soccer fan for a good season and a half now (I got bit by the soccer bug mid season of MLS last year/EPL start), and while I think I know a lot now in terms of the beautiful game, substitutions in game still confuse me. Let me explain.

I see in real life, managers subbing strikers for mid fielders when they're up a goal, and subbing a defender for an attacker if they're down and desperate to score (and obviously sometimes switching strikers when one is tired), but what do YOU do in game?

Naturally you will want to sub out a player who's gassed, but what about when you are trying to attack more? Do you bring out a semi tired (yellow bar stamina) striker for fresh legs? Or do you sub a midfielder/defender, and then change up formation? What about for defense? Do you sub a tired LB for another LB? Or do you sub a midfielder and have a defender come there?

If I'm not clear on what I'm asking, I apologize. Just let me know and I'll try and clear it up. If I am, tell me what you personally do. I am very curious.

Its all dependent upon what needs to be done. Its all situational and player specific. If I have a player with low stamina, he will get subbed out no matter the situation around the 60 minute mark. Because I don't want him to be the reason a pass gets through or a goal is scored because hes too tired. If I am down late I sub in an attacking minded player and if need be change formation to more of an attacking setup. Same if I am up late on a good team. I will sub in a mid or defender and change formation to a more defensive setup.

I never just sub a guy to sub a guy. Unless of course I check and his bar is brown, which means if he goes any longer it will be red and the chance of an injury jumps through the roof.

I mostly sub players to give them playing time. If I'm up by 2 goals at the 60' mark, I'll sub someone in o give them playing time. Otherwise it's like ZO said.

I typically like to have at least one player on my bench who is a swiss army knife type guy I can plug in to any forward/midfield spot, around 60-65 minutes in I will typically sub him in for whoever my most tired guy is upfront no matter the situation. If I'm up a goal or sometimes two depending on the opponent I will then swap out another tired forward/attacking midfielder with an additional cb and switch to a 5 man defense. On the flipside, if losing I will instead bring in a fresh attacker. Since I typically play formations (either 4-3-3 False Nine or 4-1-4-1) with one holding midfielder, another regular play when leading is to move an attacking midfielder with solid defensive skills into a holding midfield spot switching to a 4-2-3-1.
