It's really not. But perhaps that opinion should be taken with a grain of salt given that I am so new to the game and sport in general. He is definitely slower, but I seem to be very good at defending with him. I've seen quite a few people mention Kaboul, but he's only a 79, so what's so great about him? I compared him w/ Mertesacker on futhead and both their workrates are M/M, so what gives? <--That's not meant to sound condescending or argumentative--just curious!

    Thanks!

So, this discussion can be broken down into one simple question -- do you play online seasons/tournaments?

If you do not play online, Mertesacker will be a really solid defender. His defending stats are wonderful, and his slow pace won't be exploited by the AI often.

If you do play online, Mertesacker's pace is a huge liability. I know that when I have faced him, I have been able to exploit his slow pace, and I am not even a pacewhore who just plays lobbed through balls all game. Kaboul will be better online because he is big, fast, and strong.

        There we go!

No I don't play online. I think I'm in Season 5 playing offline and it got DRASTICALLY harder jumping from 6 to 5, lol.

Question for the guru Slikwille, or anyone

Which players should I sell, and who should I keep? Like how do you know who is going to decline in value, and who may rise.

For example I saved up all my coins and pack money and bought neuer. IDK if i should sell him for 200k, or wait and see if his price may go up.

            So I have a question(s) regarding workrates...

Are workrates simply how hard the players 'try' on offense and defense? If this is the case, why would I go after someone listed as 'low' in either category?

When going after players, should I always look for players with High/High workrates?

            TIA, as always!

This video explains a lot of good trading techniques: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2ChQEv3CPM

The things that have worked the best for me are:
              • Inform trading -- buying when they are about to go out of packs, which is their lowest price. Then you sit on them for a few weeks when they become rare again.
              • Consumable Trading -- Finding fitness and position changes at low prices, then selling them at a higher price for a small profit.
              • Late Night Selling -- This is my favorite. You list your entire club of players before you go to bed. Make sure you list their price at least 10%-20% above their daytime market value and for 6 hours.

The idea here is that the nighttime markets have fewer people trading players, so supply go down, while demand stays decent. If you don't sell, don't worry. Just place your players back in your team when you want to play, and relist them again at night. If you do end up selling, you can then buy the same player again during the day when supply is high, and their price is low.

                Rinse. Repeat.

You don't always want a striker with a high defensive work rate. You usually want him staying up the pitch instead of tracking back. It all kind of depends on the formation too. For example, you'll want LM/RM with H/H if you have a three at the back formation to help cover the wings.

Holding midfielders usually need M/H or H/H. Attacking midfielders should have H/M.

Fullbacks almost always have High attacking work rates. CB occasionally have High but that's not recommended. Those guys need to stay back and defend.

I'm not sure I understand this.

How do you know when they're about to 'go out of packs'? Or, when they become rare again?

So, "Informs" are the black cards that you see. The way they work is every week on Wednesday, EA creates a new Team of the Week (TOTW). This team is comprised of Inform players, who take the place of their "regular" form for the week they are in the TOTW.

                      Example:

The current TOTW (see here: http://www.futhead.com/15/totw/totw7/) is comprised of 18 players, but for this example let's just focus on Higuain.

So last Wednesday, the TOTW was released in packs. That means from Last Wednesday to this coming Wednesday, any time you pack Higuain, he will be an "inform" (read: black card) instead of his regular gold. Once this Wednesday comes around, Higuain will go back to being a gold card in packs.

We can use the principles of supply and demand to determine when we should buy the Inform Higuain to invest in him. Since we know Higuain will only be available as an Inform from last Wednesday to this coming Wednesday, we know there will be the highest supply of Inform Higuains on the market on Tuesday, before he leaves packs. So we can purchase him at the lowest price he will be for the week.

On the next day, a new TOTW is announced, and Higuain goes back to being gold in packs. This means that no more Inform Higuain cards will enter the market, ever. The supply of Inform Higuain is set in stone. So now we just need to wait for the demand to go up, or conversely, the number of Inform Higuain cards on the market to go down.

So this is why I say to wait three or more weeks. This typically is enough time for the amount of Inform Higuain cards being traded on the market to go down drastically, as people have been snatching them up for the past three weeks. This also means that the price on Inform Higuain is going up, so you can make a nice profit.

                      Hope this makes sense!

                      -----------------------------------------------------------

                      Another thought:

You can use this principle in reverse to get good deals on the Gold version of a player that is in the TOTW.

Looking at Higuain again, what typically happens when a player gets an Inform is people start selling off their "gold" version and try to replace them with the Inform version. So for the week that Higuain is found in packs as an inform, the market will also be saturated with people trying to sell is non-inform card. You can then buy that non-inform card at a reduced price.

This is not an investing method, however. These cards do not raise in price as much as the informs will, but if you really wanted to try one of the super expensive players, it's wise to buy them when they are in the TOTW.

Thanks so much for your very informative/helpful/detailed responses in the FUT Thread!

Question for you. I'm currently at an all time high of 46,000 coins (LOL, I know...) and itching to spend them, but I'd also like to make some wise investments if I can--as my team is decent enough to run with at the moment w/out upgrading. I'd really like to build up a large balance of coins if possible...

I see Dzeko (TOTW) available for $36,250. This is one I can actually afford. Should I snag him, and then try to flip him (in 2-3 weeks) once his TOTW status is removed tomorrow (or wed--whichever you said)?

Or is he not a good player to attempt this with? His 'normal' card is going for as little as $1900 right now, which seems incredibly low for an 83 OVR. Or perhaps I should snag his regular card for ultra cheap? My current ST are Welbeck, Bony, & Adebayor...

Thanks so much for all you're help. You're really helping me learn a lot about different players and tactics!

I might invest in some in form Eto'o cards. He's lost a lot of pace, but that 85 shooting looks really nice. Only 30k right now.

Go to this link, it shows the current TOTW (in other words, the players you can get in packs right now): http://www.futhead.com/15/totw/totw7/

These are the only inform players I would invest in currently. Of those, the only ones I can think of as being "good" investments, would be Antunes and Eto'o.

Antunes -- I think he can be a good investment, because the only Liga BBVA LBs better than his Inform are Jordi Alba (27.2K on PS4) and Marcelo (36.7K). Antunes right now is going for 12K, and I think he will eventually reach 18K-20K. So you could take your money and get 1 or 2 Antunes Informs and wait a few weeks to resell.

Eto'o -- Eto'o as a CAM is bad, but if you can position change him to ST, you might have a good bit of profit. Eto'o is going for 38K, and you can get the CAM-->CF and CF-->ST cards for about 1K-2K total. I think he can easily got for 50K+ as a ST. You may not even need to wait on his price to go up, because him being a ST will be a huge draw.

                                Another bit of information...

FUT does a horrible job of explaining staff modifiers. They can actually save you a fair amount of coins. I'm going with a strict no pack buying policy this year so I never have enough consumables.

Managers are HUGE in saving coins for contracts. If you max out your manager staff modifier at 50%, rare gold contracts are worth a whopping 42 games instead of 28. The link explains it further but it is definitely an effective way to save coins.
